  • - This study compared the effectiveness of metaphase and interphase FISH for diagnosing microdeletion syndromes and gender determination disorders using a sample of 282 patients across different syndromes.
  • - Results showed a 100% agreement between interphase and metaphase FISH results for both microdeletion syndromes and gender determination disorders, indicating that interphase FISH can reliably replace metaphase FISH as a screening method.
  • - The findings suggest that interphase FISH alone could serve as an effective initial diagnostic tool for microdeletion syndromes, reserving metaphase FISH for situations where interphase results are inconclusive.

Article Synopsis
  • A study investigated the link between anaemia and the development of diabetes mellitus (DM) in a Korean population over a 5-year period, finding limited data on this association.
  • The research included 17,515 patients without a prior DM history, categorizing them into anaemia and non-anaemia groups, and utilized propensity score matching to balance baseline characteristics.
  • Results showed that the anaemia group had a significantly higher rate of developing type 2 DM (10.7% vs 7.7%) and a higher mortality rate (2.6% vs 1.2%) compared to the non-anaemia group, suggesting a potential link that needs further investigation through randomized trials.
