The boll weevil, Anthonomus grandis grandis Boheman, and thurberia weevil, Anthonomus grandis thurberiae Pierce, together comprise a species complex that ranges throughout Mexico, the southwestern regions of the United States and parts of South America. The boll weevil is a historically damaging and contemporaneously threatening pest to commercial upland cotton, Gossypium hirsutum L. (Malvales: Malvaceae), whereas the thurberia weevil is regarded as an innocuous non-pest subspecies that is mostly found on non-cultivated Thurber's or Arizona cotton, Gossypium thurberi L.

Distinguishing between Parkinson's disease (PD) and essential tremor (ET) can be challenging sometimes. Although positron emission tomography can confirm PD diagnosis, its application is limited by high cost and exposure to radioactive isotopes. Patients with PD exhibit loss of the dorsal nigral hyperintensity on brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

Background: Glutamatergic signaling is essential for modulating synaptic plasticity and cognition. However, the dynamics of glutamatergic activity over the 24-hour sleep-wake cycle, particularly in relation to sleep, remain poorly understood. This study aims to investigate diurnal variations in brain Glx levels-representing the combined concentrations of glutamate and glutamine-in humans and to explore their implications for cognitive performance and sleep pressure.

Farmers in Africa perceive the impact of fall armyworm (FAW) on maize to be significant, but field assessments have shown that yield losses are not significant enough to warrant pesticide interventions. This suggests that relationships between the crop stages, time, and duration of attack can affect the yield. Therefore, assessing the plant's recovery from damage using individual plants based on defoliation levels could guide whether and when pesticides should be applied.

Objectives: To systematically review and meta-analyze the recurrent rate of iodinated contrast medium (ICM)-associated adverse drug reactions (ADRs) and the preventive effect of using alternative ICM lacking a common carbamoyl side chain.

Materials And Methods: A systematic literature search was conducted in the MEDLINE and EMBASE databases to identify studies that investigated the recurrence rate of ICM-associated ADRs or hypersensitivity reactions (HSRs). Studies that included patients who subsequently underwent contrast-enhanced computed tomography scans after their index reactions were included, while studies with overlapping cohorts were excluded.

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic inflammatory disease caused by autoantibodies. Serum samples from patients with SLE ( = 10) were compared with those from normal controls (NCs, = 5) using 21K protein chip analysis to identify a biomarker for SLE, revealing 63 SLE-specific autoantibodies. The anti-chaperonin-containing t-complex polypeptide-1 (TCP1) antibody exhibited higher expression in patients with SLE than in NCs.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to investigate whether switching gadolinium-based contrast agents (GBCAs) can help reduce the recurrence of acute adverse drug reactions (ADRs) associated with their use during MRI exams.
  • From nearly 239,000 MRI exams between January 2016 and December 2021, 1,042 cases of acute ADRs were identified, with follow-up evaluations showing a recurrence rate of 31.9% among patients who experienced ADRs.
  • Results indicated that patients who switched to different GBCAs had a significantly lower recurrence of ADRs (14.3%) compared to those who remained on the same agent (36.9%), suggesting that changing

The rise of β-lactam resistance necessitates new strategies to combat bacterial infections. We purposefully engineered the β-lactam prodrug AcephPT to exploit β-lactamase activity to selectively suppress resistant bacteria producing extended-spectrum-β-lactamases (ESBLs). Selective targeting of resistant bacteria requires avoiding interaction with penicillin-binding proteins, the conventional targets of β-lactam antibiotics, while maintaining recognition by ESBLs to activate AcephPT only in resistant cells.

Article Synopsis
  • * These treatments may cause adverse effects known as amyloid-related imaging abnormalities (ARIA), which are linked to disruptions in blood vessel integrity leading to conditions like ARIA-E (edema) and ARIA-H (microhemorrhage).
  • * For proper assessment of ARIA, clinicians should use specific MRI sequences, including T2-FLAIR and T2* GRE to identify ARIA types, and be equipped to recognize and report these imaging features in practice.

Advances in biomarker-based diagnostic modalities, recent approval of anti-amyloid monoclonal antibodies for early Alzheimer's disease (AD; mild cognitive impairment or mild dementia due to AD) and late-stage clinical development of other disease-modifying therapies for AD necessitate a significant paradigm shift in the early detection, diagnosis and management of AD. Anti-amyloid monoclonal antibodies target the underlying pathophysiological mechanisms of AD and have demonstrated a significant reduction in the rate of clinical decline in cognitive and functional outcome measures in patients with early AD. With growing recognition of the benefit of early interventions in AD, an increasing number of people may seek diagnosis for their subjective cognitive problems in an already busy medical system.

This study examines the emergence and development of a social movement community among LGBTQ population. Drawing on the case of the LGBTQ movement in South Korea between 1993 and 2019 from a longitudinal perspective, we identify the relational dynamics of how different movement groups avoid internal frictions and successfully develop a movement community. Our findings suggest that, as a response to repeated repressive external events, LGBTQ groups have formed and maintained collaborative networks based on a common identity as "sexual minorities.
