A high secretion of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) in reproductive-aged women is unusual. We report a case of recurrent corpus luteum hemorrhage and subsequent ovarian torsion with markedly elevated FSH levels in a reproductive-aged woman in the absence of functional gonadotroph adenoma (FGA) or premature ovarian failure (POF). A 22-year-old nulligravid woman with a history of bilateral hemorrhagic corpus luteum and subsequent ovarian torsion presented with acute abdominal pain.

Gliomatosis peritonei (GP) is a rare condition characterized by mature glial tissue implants widespread in the peritoneum, which is occasionally followed by treatment for immature teratoma (IM). The present study reported a case of GP with fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) accumulation and contrast enhancement followed by treatment for IM. Background: In primate placenta, extravillous trophoblast (EVT) invades maternal tissue in temporally- and spatially-regulated fashions. We previously identified a novel placenta-specific cell-surface aminopeptidase, laeverin/aminopeptidase Q, which is expressed on EVT-lineage cells in the fetal membrane. Laeverin possesses a peptide-binding site that is evolutionally unique to primates, suggesting possible involvement of laeverin in a primate-specific phenomenon during placentation.

Aspergillus oryzae has-two glucoamylase-encoding genes, glaA and glaB, whose expressions are distinguished by the type of culture used. The glaB gene is markedly expressed in solid-state culture but is little expressed in submerged culture. The DNA (glaB) and a cDNA-encoding glucoamylase produced in solid-state culture of Aspergillus oryzae were cloned using oligodeoxyribonucleotide probes derived from internal amino acid sequences of the enzyme. Comparison of the nucleotide sequences of a genomic DNA fragment with its cDNA showed the glaB gene carried three exons interrupted by two introns and had an open reading frame encoding 493 aa residues. The 5'-flanking region had a TATA box at nt -87 from the start codon and two putative CAAT sequences at nt -276 and -288.

Aspergillus oryzae O-1018 (FERM P-15834) separated from industrial koji for brewing sake was found to produce five papain-inhibitory compounds in the culture supernatant. The five isolated inhibitors were named CPI-1 to CPI-5, and their structures were elucidated by spectroscopic analyses and chemical degradation. We determined the structures of CPI-2, CPI-3 and CPI-4 as 4-amino-1-[[N- [(2S, 3S)-3-trans-carboxyoxiran-2-carbonyl]-L-isoleucyl] amino]butane, 5-amino-1-[[N-[(2S, 3S)-3-trans-carboxyoxiran-2-carbonyl]-L-isoleucyl]amino]pentane and N (8)- [N-[(2S, 3S)-3-trans-carboxyoxiran-2-carbonyl]-L-isoleu-cyl]spermidine, respectively.

The changes in intra- and (or) extra-cellular concentrations of Ca2+, Mg2+, K+, and Na+ during sporulation of a MATa/MAT alpha diploid yeast of Saccharomyces cerevisiae were examined in a nutrition-deprived medium with potassium acetate. Among these, Ca2+ in external medium was preferentially incorporated into cells, and sporulation was induced when the magnitude of free Ca2+ gradient between cytosol [Ca2+]i and external medium [Ca2+]o reached more than 3 x 10(3) ([Ca2+]i/[Ca2+]o = 3.5 x 10(3)).
