Background: Intrathecal baclofen therapy can substantially improve symptoms in patients with severe spasticity owing to traumatic spinal cord injury, multiple sclerosis, cerebral paresis, or tethered cord syndrome. Problems associated with intrathecal catheters include migration, laceration, occlusion, or disconnection. Several case reports have described the management of catheter fragments.

Mitophagy is an autophagic degradation system that specifically targets damaged mitochondria. We have reported previously that Bcl2-like protein 13 (Bcl2-L-13) mediates mitophagy and mitochondrial fission in mammalian cells.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAortic mural thrombus is associated with atherosclerosis in a vast majority of cases and could result in multiple organ damage, leading to higher morbidity and mortality rates. Although aspirin could be effective for primary prevention in atherosclerosis-induced aortic mural thrombus, aspirin resistance, which refers to the inadequate response to aspirin therapy, allows the progression of thrombus. Classically, warfarin could be an effective treatment for thromboembolic diseases, while in recent years, direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) have shown superior safety and efficacy, particularly in elderly patients.

Impaired attention is closely related to the incidence of these accidents. Therefore, this study aimed to clarify the changes in blood glucose, fatigue and stress response hormone levels over time among workers in a secondary industry.

Kampo Goreisan, a traditional Eastern-Asian herbal medicine that regulates body water balance via the aquaporin-incorporated water reabsorption system can be used as an alternative therapy without causing renal burden. In this report, we describe a case of successful treatment with Goreisan of heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) due to atrial functional mitral and tricuspid regurgitation (AFMR/TR) receiving guideline-directed medical-therapy.

Tissue samples were extracted with a mixture of water and acetonitrile containing ammonium hydroxide. The extracted sample was cleaned up with a combination of liquid-liquid partitioning and dispersive solid phase extraction.

Calcium-independent phospholipase Aβ (iPLAβ) produces lipid mediators by catalyzing lipids and induces nuclear shrinkage in caspase-independent cell death.

Here we present CAPITAL (comparative analysis of pseudotime trajectory inference with tree alignment), a method for comparing single-cell trajectories with tree alignment whereby branching trajectories can be automatically compared. Computational tests on synthetic datasets and authentic bone marrow cells datasets indicate that CAPITAL has achieved accurate and robust alignments of trajectory trees, revealing various gene expression dynamics including gene-gene correlation conservation between different species.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA forward mutagenesis assay using the gene has been widely employed for the last several decades in studies addressing mutation frequencies and mutation spectra associated with various intrinsic and environmental mutagens. In this study, by using a shuttle vector and non-SOS-induced with short-read next-generation sequencing (NGS) technology, we present an advanced method for the study of mutations, which is simple, versatile, and cost-effective. We demonstrate the performance of our newly developed assay via pilot experiments with ultraviolet (UV) irradiation, the results from which emerge more relevant than expected.

We aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of oral bisphosphonate minodronate in preventing bone loss complications.
Patients And Methods: Patients receiving AI and 80% of those with suboptimal bone mineral density (BMD) were prescribed monthly oral minodronate 50 mg every 4 weeks for 72 weeks.

Rat lungworm (Angiostrongylus cantonensis) is a neurotropic nematode, and the leading cause of eosinophilic meningitis worldwide. The parasite is usually contracted through ingestion of infected gastropods, often hidden in raw or partially cooked produce. Pharmaceutical grade pyrantel pamoate was evaluated as a post-exposure prophylactic against A.

Our previous clinical trial indicated that the real-time indocyanin green (RT-ICG)fluorescence imaging technique could improve the diagnostic sensitivity and detection accuracy of sentinel node biopsy(SNB). Nine pts with histologically confirmed Stage ⅡA to ⅢB, T1-T3, N0-2, M0 BC were selected to receive NAC, and the standard surgeries were performed after NAC completion.

A small chemical, E6446 [(6-[3-(pyrrolidin-1-yl)propoxy)-2-(4-(3-(pyrrolidin-1-yl)propoxy)phenyl]benzo[d]oxazole)], is a specific Toll-like receptor 9 inhibitor in cardiomyocytes. In this study, we showed that E6446 exerts beneficial effects for the prevention and treatment of pressure overload-induced heart failure in mice.

Oxidative folding of extracellular proteins is pivotal for the biogenesis of bacterial virulence factors. Escherichia coli DsbA catalyzes disulfide bond formation in extracellular proteins and in multicomponent architectures on the cell surface. The present study assessed the significance of the redox properties of DsbA by exploiting the plaque-forming ability of bacteriophage M13, which specifically recognizes F-pili during infection of the host cell.
