Dasatinib, a second-generation tyrosine kinase inhibitor, has been reported to have immunomodulatory effects. Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-associated lymphoproliferative disorders (EBV-LPD) occur in immunocompromised patients, such as those receiving methotrexate or other immunosuppressive drugs or after allogenic transplantation. EBV-LPD is also reported to be a rare side effect in patients receiving long-term dasatinib or imatinib.

Background: Psychosocial stress can induce various physical symptoms, including fever, which is a commonly seen symptom in pediatric practice. In cases of unexplained fever, psychogenic fever should be considered as a potential cause. Children with neurodevelopmental disorders may be more vulnerable to stress and therefore more prone to developing somatic symptoms than their peers.

Article Synopsis
  • This paper looks at why some patients with anorexia nervosa (AN) have a low kidney function (measured as GFR) even if they aren't dehydrated or low on potassium, focusing on a condition called low FT3 syndrome.* -
  • Researchers studied 39 AN patients from 2005 to 2023, checking different health markers and how they relate to each other and to the patients' body weight (BMI-SDS) during treatment.* -
  • The results showed that low FT3 levels were linked to low GFR in these patients, and certain markers for dehydration also had significant connections with kidney function.*

Tank-binding kinase 1 (TBK1) is a Ser/Thr kinase that is involved in many intracellular processes, such as innate immunity, cell cycle, and apoptosis. TBK1 is also important for phosphorylating the autophagy adaptors that mediate the selective autophagic removal of damaged mitochondria. However, the mechanism by which PINK1-Parkin-mediated mitophagy activates TBK1 remains largely unknown.

Intrauterine insemination with donor sperm (IUI-D) requires multiple in vitro manipulations such as sperm selection and cryopreservation during which spermatozoa may be exposed to oxidative stress (OS) and other insults that may produce potential damage including sperm DNA fragmentation (SDF). High levels of SDF, referring to damage or breaks in the genetic material of sperm cells, are linked to an increased risk of reproductive failure. This retrospective, observational study set out to evaluate whether SDF assessment could predict clinical outcome in an IUI-D program, where sperm donors are selected on strict conventional semen parameters.

Psychosomatic disorders are influenced by psychosocial factors such as interpersonal relationships. Coping behaviors, especially in frustrating situations, reflect a patient's ability to cope with stress, and it is important to assess these behaviors for the treatment of psychosomatic diseases. This study aimed to clarify the interpersonal relationships and coping behaviors of pediatric patients with psychosomatic diseases during frustrating situations simulated using the Rosenzweig Picture-Frustration study.

Background: Sperm DNA fragmentation has been proposed as a candidate test for the assessment of sperm function on the premise that damage to the sperm chromatin is associated with a detrimental reproductive outcome. The objective of our study was to investigate whether sperm DNA fragmentation testing has a prognostic value, and thus can play a pivotal role in selecting future patients for intra-uterine insemination (IUI) therapy.

Methods: This was a prospective cohort study conducted in a University Hospital setting.

Microfluidic liquid cells have been developed to visualize nanoscaled biological samples in liquid using a scanning electron microscope (SEM) through an electron-transparent membrane (ETM). However, despite the combination of the high-resolution visualization of SEM and the high experimental capability of microfluidics, the image is unclear because of the scattering of the electron beam in the ETM. Thus, this study developed a microfluidic liquid cell with a super-thin ETM of thickness 10 nm.

Cancer invasion and metastasis are the major causes of cancer patient mortality. Various growth factors, including hepatocyte growth factor (HGF), are known to promote cancer invasion and metastasis, but the regulatory mechanisms involved are not fully understood. Here, we show that HGF-promoted migration and invasion of breast cancer cells are regulated by CUB domain-containing protein 1 (CDCP1), a transmembrane activator of SRC kinase.

Introduction: It is extremely important for patients with diabetes undergoing maintenance hemodialysis (MHD) to receive regular ophthalmologic examinations. However, even in the field of MHD in Japan, where there are many hemodialysis patients and the survival rate is said to be one of the highest in the world, we often see patients with diabetes who do not receive regular ophthalmologic examinations. In this study, we surveyed the status of ophthalmology consultations and the use of diabetic eye notebook (DEN) among hemodialysis patients with diabetes at hemodialysis clinics to confirm the current situation, with the aim of confirming the effectiveness of education on consultation behavior by medical care staff.

Purpose: Ingesting beverages containing a high concentration of sodium under euhydrated conditions induces hypervolemia. Because carbohydrate can enhance interstitial fluid absorption via the sodium-glucose cotransporter and insulin-dependent renal sodium reabsorption, adding carbohydrate to high-sodium beverages may augment the hypervolemic response.

Methods: To test this hypothesis, we had nine healthy young males ingest 1087 ± 82 mL (16-17 mL per kg body weight) of water or aqueous solution containing 0.
