Duodenal ulcer perforation and its consequences.

Duodenal ulcer perforation, a frequent surgical emergency, needs simple closure with indirect Graham's Omentopexy which is effective with excellent results in majority of cases despite patients' late presentation. The objective of the study was to determine the frequency of postoperative complications of perforated duodenal ulcer, conducted in the Surgery Department, Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, Karachi, from March 20, 2018 to September 20, 2018. The study was a descriptive case series of 108 patients of both genders with perforated duodenal ulcer > 1 week old with ASA score I & II.

Prevalence of Empyema or Mucocele or Other Histological Diagnoses in Patients Undergoing Cholecystectomy With Diagnosis of Chronic Cholecystitis.

Background Chronic cholecystitis is inflammation of the gall bladder usually caused by stones. The aim was to find out the prevalence of mucocele and empyema in chronic cholecystitis using cholecystectomy findings and histopathological reports. Methodology This was a cross-sectional observational study conducted in Surgical Ward 1, Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center, Karachi from December 2019 to December 2021 for two years.

The effect of acute complicated appendicitis on liver function test.

Objectives: To determine the diagnostic role of hyperbilirubinemia in acute appendicitis like suppurative and gangrenous appendicitis.

Methods: This observational study was conducted at Ward-3, Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center (JPMC), Karachi from 1 June 2019 to 1 June 2020. Males and females above 12 years of age were included.

Outcomes of Harmonic Scalpel and Electrocautery in Patients Who Underwent Modified Radical Mastectomy.

Objective This study aimed to compare the mean operative time, total analgesic required, and the mean number of drainage days in harmonic scalpel versus electrocautery in breast cancer patients undergoing modified radical mastectomy (MRM). Methodology This retrospective cross-sectional study was conducted in the Department of General Surgery, Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center (JPMC). The duration of the study was six months, from January 2018 until July 2018.

Emergency Inguinal Hernia Repair: Comparison Of Desarda's Versus Darning Technique.

Background: Emergency inguinal hernia repair remains the commonest operation performed by general surgeons all over the world. The aim of this study was to compare the mean operative time, post-operative pain, wound infection and early recurrence between Desarda's and Darning emergency inguinal hernia repair.

Methods: This is a randomized controlled trial conducted at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, Karachi.

Carbimazole-induced hypothyroidism causes the adrenal atrophy in 10 days' prenatally treated albino rats.

Objective: To investigate the effects of carbimazole-induced hypothyroidism, and simultaneous administration of thyroxine (thyroid hormone analogue) on the adrenal glands of 10 days' prenatally treated albino rats.

Design: A comparative study.
