Objective: To clarify the infection control measures required in the event of a new infectious disease outbreak, we conducted a questionnaire survey on the infection control measures implemented against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Methods: An invitation to participate in this survey was sent to the heads of 2689 facilities affiliated with the members of the Japanese Society for Infection Prevention and Control in February 2023, requesting responses to the online survey using Google Forms by March 2023.

Results: Six hundred and forty-five facilities, including 20 clinics and 625 hospitals, participated in the survey.

Introduction: Gastric cancer with fusion genes involving the Rho GTPase-activating protein domain (RhoGAP-GC) is mainly included in the genomically stable type of The Cancer Genome Atlas classification. Clinical implications and histological characteristics of RhoGAP-GC in the early phase remain unclear.

Methods: We analyzed 878 consecutive pT1b GCs for RhoGAP and its partner genes using fluorescence in situ hybridization assay.

Article Synopsis
  • * In a study involving 39 IUP cases, researchers found that 87% had oncogenic mutations in RAS family genes, particularly HRAS, which was linked to smoking and specific morphological traits, while KRAS mutations were only found in non-smokers.
  • * The study revealed no cases of recurrence or progression to cancer during follow-up, emphasizing the role of RAS mutations in IUP development and their relationship to different tumor subtypes and spread patterns.

Female urethral adenocarcinoma has attracted attention as a rare tumor type based on its differential pathogenesis from its male counterpart. However, to date, our knowledge concerning its immunohistochemical and morphological characteristics remains limited due to the small number of cases studied. In this study, nine consecutive cases of female urethral adenocarcinoma were used for immunohistochemical and morphological characterization of the tumor based on semi-comprehensive immunohistochemical analysis and detailed morphological evaluations.

Werner syndrome (WS) is an autosomal recessive disorder characterised by premature ageing. WS patients often experience scleroderma-like manifestation including skin sclerosis and skin ulcer, making it difficult to differentiate WS from systemic sclerosis (SSc). Moreover, there is a high incidence of malignancy and arteriosclerosis-related disease in WS patients.

Objective: The origin of pseudomyxoma peritoneii (PMP) has been established as low-grade appendiceal mucinous tumors (AMT). However, intestinal-type ovarian mucinous tumors are known as another source of PMP. Recently, it is advocated that ovarian mucinous tumors causing PMP originates from teratomas.

Article Synopsis
  • Lenvima (lenvatinib) is an anticancer drug with severe side effects, making therapeutic drug monitoring essential, but traditional blood sampling methods are challenging for self-medicated patients.
  • The study aimed to develop a sensitive method for estimating lenvatinib levels in small microsamples of blood plasma and to test its accuracy with clinically obtained samples from patients with unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).
  • Results showed that the new mass spectrometry method effectively measured lenvatinib concentrations in both microsamples and conventional blood samples, indicating that microsampling could enhance drug monitoring for HCC patients.

Rationale: Multicentric Castleman disease (MCD) is a rare lymphoproliferative disorder accompanied by systemic symptoms characterized by polyclonal hypergammaglobulinemia and chronic inflammation due to overexpression of interleukin-6. Histological heterogeneity of renal involvement in MCD has been described, although the number of reports is limited. Tocilizumab, a humanized anti-interleukin-6 receptor antibody, has been reported to be effective for MCD.

Background And Purpose: The presence of hemispatial neglect adversely affects functional outcomes in stroke patients; consequently, it warrants early targeted rehabilitative intervention. Nevertheless, hemispatial neglect in the acute phase of stroke has often been underdiagnosed. In this study, we aimed to detect hemispatial neglect at the bedside in acute stroke patients by measuring eye movements using video-oculography (VOG).

Background: Prostate cancer spans a broad spectrum from indolent to deadly disease. In the management of prostate cancer, diagnostic biopsy specimens are important sources of data that inform the selection of treatment. B7-H3 (CD276), an immune checkpoint molecule, has emerged as a promising immunotherapy target.

Objective: Carotid artery stenosis and cerebral aneurism may have different platelet functions and antiplatelet responses because these diseases have different etiologies. In this study, we compared the antiplatelet loading effects prior to endovascular treatment between carotid artery stenosis and unruptured cerebral aneurysm (UCA) patients.

Methods: Nine patients with asymptomatic carotid artery stenosis (ACS), 14 with symptomatic carotid artery stenosis (SCS), and 20 with unruptured cerebral aneurysms were enrolled in this study.

Background And Purpose: Uncomfortable care and histamine H2 antagonist (H2A) are implicated in precipitating delirium. In acute stroke, however, the need for them depends on stroke severity, an established risk factor for delirium. So, it is unclear whether care or H2A itself is responsible for delirium.

Busulfan is given in the conditioning regimens preceding hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT), and plasma levels can be monitored. A targeted, individualized systemic exposure (SE) dose can be achieved by calculating the area under the plasma concentration versus time curve (AUC). The objective of this study was to determine a cutoff value for safety for the AUC for busulfan plasma levels in patients undergoing HSCT.

Background And Purpose: Delirium frequently complicates acute stroke and worsens outcomes. Because delirium is potentially preventable, predicting its occurrence is essential. Although several prediction scores have been proposed, nurses need to quickly predict delirium in stroke care units (SCUs).

ALK rearranged renal cell carcinoma (ALK-RCC) has recently been included in 2016 WHO classification as a provisional entity. In this study, we describe 12 ALK-RCCs from 8 institutions, with detailed clinical, pathological, immunohistochemical (IHC), fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH), and next generation sequencing (NGS) analyses. Patients' age ranged from 25 to 68 years (mean, 46.
