Method and equipment for estimation activity nuclides in samples of finite dimensions.

This study presents a method of measuring the activity of a specific radionuclide Pa in samples placed in bulk transport containers under changing background conditions. The method makes it possible to measure specific activity of Pa in objects without the need for sampling. The change in the effective sample volume limited by the surfaces of the containers is considered depending on the density of the measured material and the energy of gamma radiation of the radionuclide.

Comparing different sperm concentrations for optimizing cooled semen use in the dog.

The use of shipping canine semen for artificial insemination has bloomed over the last 20 years. This allows for the spread of genetic material while overcoming geographical or time-related challenges. The optimal sperm concentration for cooled semen transport in the dog is unknown.

Case report: A case of oviductal and uterine leiomyosarcoma in an 11-year-old dog.

An 11-year-old, intact female Pomeranian dog was presented for evaluation due to an 18-h history of anorexia and lethargy. Abdominal ultrasound revealed a 3×3 cm mass of mixed echogenicity at the level of the left ovary. At laparotomy, a 5 mm mass was identified at the cranial region of the right uterine horn and a 3 cm round mass was visualized near the cranial aspect of the left uterine horn.

Case report: Clitoral adenocarcinoma in a mixed-breed female dog.

A 9-year-old, spayed female, mixed-breed dog was initially presented for evaluation of chronic dermatitis on the nasal planum, where a clitoral mass was discovered as an incidental finding during the exam. No further investigation of the clitoral mass was undertaken due to other significant dermal lesions and the lack of clinical significance of the mass at the time. However, ~1 month later, the dog was presented to the Emergency Service for bleeding from the vulva.

Defining an Optimal Range of Centrifugation Parameters for Canine Semen Processing.

Our objective was to determine a clinically relevant range of centrifugation parameters for processing canine semen. We hypothesized that higher gravitational (g) force and longer time of centrifugation would result in improved spermatozoa recovery rate (RR) but poorer semen quality. Cooled storage under standard shipping conditions was used as a stressor to evaluate long-term treatment effects.

Case Report: Disorder of Sexual Development in a Chinese Crested Dog With XX/XY Leukocyte Chimerism and Mixed Cell Testicular Tumors.

A 10-year-old intact female Chinese Crested dog was presented for evaluation and further diagnostics due to persistent symptoms of vulvar swelling, vaginal discharge, and an 8-year history of acyclicity. At presentation, generalized hyperpigmentation and truncal alopecia were identified, with no aberrations of the female phenotype. Vaginal cytology confirmed the influence of estrogen at multiple veterinary visits, and hormonal screening of progesterone and anti-Mullerian hormone indicated gonadal presence.

Early gastric mixed neuroendocrine-non-neuroendocrine neoplasm with early poor prognosis after endoscopic submucosal dissection: A case report.

Early gastric mixed neuroendocrine-non-neuroendocrine neoplasms (MiNENs) are rare diseases, with no data on their incidence and prognosis. We report the case of intramucosal gastric MiNENs for endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) treatment. An 80-year-old male underwent esophagogastroduodenoscopy for screening and was suspected of early gastric cancer type 0-IIa+IIc on the lesser curvature of the antrum, for which ESD treatment was performed.

Relationship of the fabella with the origins of the plantaris and gastrocnemius lateral head muscles in late-term fetuses: a histological study.

Previous studies of midterm fetuses indicated that a cartilaginous fabella appeared to be embedded in the plantaris (PL), and was fused with the gastrocnemius lateral head (GL). We re-examined the topographical anatomy of the fabella or its analogue (a tight fibrous mass) originating in the GL and/or PL by evaluating histological sections of the unilateral knees of 15 late-term fetuses. Regardless of whether the cartilaginous fabella was present (6 fetuses) or absent (9 fetuses), the origins of the PL and GL muscles each had three parts.

Paratenon of the cruciate ligaments of the knee: a macroscopic and histological study of human foetuses.

Background: The paratenon is a sheath-like connective tissue that allows the tendon to move with minimal friction. The careful removal of the paratenon along the cruciate ligaments is a critical step of knee surgery. Thus, orthopaedic surgeons and interventional radiologists consider the paratenon as a basic anatomical tissue along a ligament, not along a tendon.

Introduction: Fast-adapting afferent input from the sole Pacinian corpuscles (PCs) is essential for walking. However, the distribution of PCs in the plantar subcutaneous tissue remains unknown.

Materials And Methods: Using histological sections tangential to the plantar skin of eight near-term fetuses, we counted 528-900 PCs per sole.

This paper describes the synthesis of protein microtube motors having a urease interior surface and highlights their nonbubble-propelled behavior driven by enzymatic reaction (urea→NH and CO ). The precursor microtubes were prepared by layer-by-layer assembly using a track-etched microporous polycarbonate membrane. Immobilization of a urease on the internal wall was accomplished using avidin-biotin interaction.

Gastric adenocarcinoma of fundic gland type arising from heterotopic gastric glands during a 19-year follow-up period.

A 73-year-old man with prior history of duodenal ulcer has been undergoing periodic upper gastrointestinal endoscopy since 1999. In 2017, a 25-mm submucosal tumor-like protrusion was detected in the lesser curvature of the upper stomach; histological examination of the lesion revealed gastric adenocarcinoma of fundic gland type. En bloc resection was achieved using endoscopic submucosal dissection.

Tyrosinase is the key enzyme that controls melanin formation. We found that a hot water extract of the lyophilized fruiting body of the fungus inhibited tyrosinase from . The extract was fractionated by ODS column chromatography, and an active compound was obtained by purification through successive preparative HPLC using an ODS and a HILIC column.

Human intestinal spirochetosis is significantly associated with sessile serrated adenomas/polyps.

It remains unclear whether or not human intestinal spirochetosis (HIS) has any associated symptoms or lesions. In this study, we assessed the prevalence of HIS in sessile serrated adenomas/polyps (SSA/Ps) and their possible association. Following identification of early cecal cancer with SSA/P accompanied by a colonization of HIS, we went on to conduct a retrospective case-control study using endoscopically resected SSA/P specimens to examine the frequency of HIS infection in SSA/Ps.

A multicentre randomised trial to compare the efficacy of omeprazole versus rabeprazole in early symptom relief in patients with reflux esophagitis.

Background: Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) are affected by cytochrome P450 2C19 (CYP2C19) polymorphisms. This study compared the effect of two PPIs on early symptom relief in Japanese patients with reflux esophagitis, classified by the CYP2C19 phenotype.

Methods: Patients with reflux esophagitis were randomised to treatment with omeprazole 20 mg or rabeprazole 10 mg once daily.

A case of lymphomatoid gastropathy: a self-limited pseudomalignant natural killer (NK)-cell proliferative disease mimicking NK/T-cell lymphomas.

Natural killer (NK)/T-cell lymphomas exhibit aggressive tumor behavior and have a poor prognosis. Recently, self-limited pseudomalignant NK-cell proliferative disorders of the stomach mimicking NK/T-cell lymphomas have been recognized. We report a rare case of lymphomatoid gastropathy in a 71-year-old female.

Synthesis of Orientationally Isomeric Cyclic Stereoblock Polylactides with Head-to-Head and Head-to-Tail Linkages of the Enantiomeric Segments.

A pair of orientationally isomeric cyclic stereoblock polylactides (PLAs) possessing head-to-head (HH) and head-to-tail (HT) linkages between the poly(l-lactide) (PLLA) and poly(d-lactide) (PDLA) segments was synthesized through click chemistry and ring-closing metathesis (RCM) of three asymmetrically functionalized telechelic precursors. Thus, α-ethenyl-ω-azido-PLLA () was reacted with α-ethenyl-ω-ethynyl-PDLA () and α-ethynyl-ω-ethenyl-PDLA () via click chemistry to form ethenyl telechelic stereoblock PLAs with HH and HT orientations ( and ), respectively. A novel mechanophore with acid-releasing capability is designed to produce a simple catalyst for chemical change in materials under mechanical stress. [Black esophagus due to acute necrotizing esophagitis: four case reports].

We describe four patients with acute esophageal necrosis who were admitted to hospital due to upper gastrointestinal bleeding. "Black esophagus" is endoscopically defined as diffuse dark pigmentation of the esophageal wall. The underlying conditions were ketoacidosis in three of the patients and diabetes mellitus in two.

The association between gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) has recently been suggested. Patients with OSAS have a high frequency of nocturnal GER, and patients with GERD have various sleep-related symptom such as snoring and apnea. However, the causal relation between OSAS and GERD has not been sufficiently elucidated.

[Leak of anesthetic gases inside the anesthesia machine].

We experienced the leak of anesthetic gases inside the anesthesia machine in spite of performing the leak test before its use. After induction of anesthesia, a laryngeal mask airway was inserted and the patient was ventilated manually. At the beginning we could not find any signs of machine troubles.
