The adsorption behavior of an anionic surfactant, hydroxy alkane sulfonate with an alkyl chain length of 18 (C18HAS), from its hard water solution onto a mica surface and resulting lubrication properties were investigated. Because of the double chain-like chemical structure and aggregation behavior, C18HAS formed vesicles in hard water, which adsorbed onto a negatively charged mica surface via cation (Ca) bridging and then transformed into a bilayer film. The number of bilayers formed on the surface was evaluated by force curve measurements using an atomic force microscope (AFM), and the results showed a time-dependent increase of the number of adsorbed bilayers.

We introduce our proprietary Materials Informatics (MI) technologies and our chemistry-oriented methodology for exploring new inorganic functional materials. Using machine learning on crystal structure databases, we developed 'Element Reactivity Maps' that displays the presence or the predicted formation probability of compounds for combinations of 80 × 80 × 80 elements. By analysing atomic coordinates with Delaunay tetrahedral decomposition, we established the concept of Delaunay Chemistry.

Anti-N-methyl-d-aspartate receptor encephalitis is an autoimmune disorder characterized by various neurological symptoms with a relatively favorable prognosis. Solid refrigerants exhibiting a caloric effect upon applying external stimuli are receiving attention as one of the next-generation refrigeration technologies. Herein, we report a new inorganic refrigerant, rubidium cyano-bridged manganese-iron-cobalt ternary metal assembly (cyano-RbMnFeCo). Cyano-RbMnFeCo shows a reversible barocaloric effect with large reversible adiabatic temperature changes of 74 K (from 57 °C to -17 °C) at 340 MPa, and 85 K (from 88 °C to 3 °C) at 560 MPa.
