Current guidelines recommend adding long-acting muscarinic antagonists (LAMAs) in patients with uncontrolled asthma, despite the use of moderate to high doses of inhaled steroid-long-acting beta agonists (ICS/LABA). This study aims to analyze the factors related to the prescription of add-on LAMA in clinical practice for asthma patients, shedding light on physicians' preferences. This study included adult asthma patients on add-on LAMA and ICS/LABA monitored for at least one year in a national registry comprising 2053 asthmatics.

The first search for soft unclustered energy patterns (SUEPs) is performed using an integrated luminosity of 138  fb^{-1} of proton-proton collision data at sqrt[s]=13  TeV, collected in 2016-2018 by the CMS detector at the LHC. Such SUEPs are predicted by hidden valley models with a new, confining force with a large 't Hooft coupling. In events with boosted topologies, selected by high-threshold hadronic triggers, the multiplicity and sphericity of clustered tracks are used to reject the background from standard model quantum chromodynamics.

Article Synopsis
  • Evans syndrome (ES) is a combination of autoimmune blood disorders, primarily autoimmune hemolytic anemia and immune thrombocytopenia, which can occasionally be secondary to other conditions like Hodgkin lymphoma (HL).
  • A case study is presented of a 56-year-old male diagnosed with both ES and HL; treatments like corticosteroids, IVIG, and ABVD successfully resolved his immune cytopenias.
  • The literature review indicated 16 other cases of HL and ES occurring together, highlighting the complexity of their relationship and the variable treatment responses, particularly when an underlying condition is present.

  • The study evaluates the recovery of cardiac diagnostic procedures in Italy one year after the COVID-19 outbreak, focusing on procedure volumes, practices, and staff well-being.
  • A global survey revealed a 72% drop in cardiac diagnostic procedures in April 2020 compared to March 2019, with only a slight recovery (3% increase) by April 2021, though some specific tests showed increased volumes.
  • Many healthcare centers adopted measures like physical distancing and COVID-19 screening, but 25% of physicians reported high psychological stress levels, highlighting ongoing challenges within the healthcare system.

Introduction: Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) constitutes 10% of all lymphoma diagnoses and accounts for 5% of lymphoma-related deaths. Accurate prognostication in HL remains crucial, particularly given that 10%-20% of patients may receive either insufficient or excessive treatment. This study investigates the effect of hemoglobin, albumin, lymphocyte, and platelet (HALP) score, which is a marker of inflammation status and nutrition, at the time of diagnosis for the patients with HL on prognosis.

Objective: To compare costs between treatment strategies employed prior to and after prostate-specific membrane antigen positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PSMA PET/CT) via the Brazilian Unified Health Care System and their impact on the therapeutic management of biochemical recurrence of prostate cancer.

Materials And Methods: The referring physicians were surveyed on their treatment intentions (strategies) at two different time points: prior to and after PSMA PET/CT. Cost comparison results are presented as median (IQR) for each of the two strategies.

Energy correlators that describe energy-weighted distances between two or three particles in a hadronic jet are measured using an event sample of sqrt[s]=13  TeV proton-proton collisions collected by the CMS experiment and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 36.3  fb^{-1}. The measured distributions are consistent with the trends in the simulation that reveal two key features of the strong interaction: confinement and asymptotic freedom.

  • The study analyzes the use of large language models (LLMs) as educational tools for patients considering Mohs micrographic surgery (MMS), focusing on their effectiveness and accuracy.* -
  • A panel of 15 MMS surgeons assessed LLM-generated responses to common patient questions, finding that most responses were appropriate and 75% rated as mostly accurate, with ChatGPT scoring the highest in accuracy.* -
  • While LLM responses were deemed appropriate, only 33% were considered sufficient for clinical use, and their complexity may hinder patient understanding, highlighting the need for dermatologists to recognize these limitations.*

The production of ϒ(2S) and ϒ(3S) mesons in lead-lead (Pb-Pb) and proton-proton (pp) collisions is studied in their dimuon decay channel using the CMS detector at the LHC. The ϒ(3S) meson is observed for the first time in Pb-Pb collisions, with a significance above 5 standard deviations. The ratios of yields measured in Pb-Pb and pp collisions are reported for both the ϒ(2S) and ϒ(3S) mesons, as functions of transverse momentum and Pb-Pb collision centrality.

Background: Most pretest probability (PTP) tools for obstructive coronary artery disease (CAD) were Western -developed. The most appropriate PTP models and the contribution of coronary artery calcium score (CACS) in Asian populations remain unknown. In a mixed Asian cohort, we compare 5 PTP models: local assessment of the heart (LAH), CAD Consortium (CAD2), risk factor-weighted clinical likelihood, the American Heart Association/American College of Cardiology and the European Society of Cardiology PTP and 3 extended versions of these models that incorporated CACS: LAH, CAD2, and the CACS-clinical likelihood.

Background: Most cardiovascular (CV) events stem from modifiable risk factors, but it remains uncertain whether their impact on mortality has decreased in recent years as a result of treatment, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. We evaluated the temporal trends in the population attributable fraction (PAF) of modifiable risk factors to CV mortality in patients undergoing myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI) for suspected coronary artery disease in a large city in Brazil.

Methods: The cohort comprised 25,127 patients without established CV disease undergoing MPI in a referral center in Curitiba, Brazil, from 2010 to 2018.
