Article Synopsis
- The study examined how the timing of endoscopic third ventriculostomy (ETV) affects success rates and neurodevelopmental outcomes in children with congenital obstructive hydrocephalus, dividing 63 children into early (⩽6 months), midterm (6-12 months), and late (>12 months) ETV groups.
- Early ETV had a low success rate of only 20.8%, while midterm and late ETV showed significantly higher success rates of 55% and 73.7%, respectively, with late ETV yielding the best post-operative developmental improvements.
- Despite these improvements, none of the children achieved normal functioning or mild neurodevelopmental disabilities, indicating that while timing matters for ETV efficacy
