Background: Obesity is a growing health issue that contributes to numerous diseases and lowers quality of life. In patients with super obesity (BMI > 50 kg/m²), bariatric surgery, particularly laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG), is a common treatment option. However, the role of antral resection (AR) in LSG remains unclear, especially in this high-risk population.

Boric Acid Protects the Uterus and Fallopian Tubes from Cyclophosphamide-Induced Toxicity in a Rat Model.

: Cyclophosphamide (CP) is widely used for treating various cancers and autoimmune diseases, but it causes damage to reproductive organs due to oxidative stress (OS) and inflammation. Boric acid (BA) has antioxidant properties that may help reduce OS, which is critical for preserving uterine functionality, particularly for cancer patients considering pregnancy after cryopreservation. This study aimed to determine whether BA could diminish CP-induced toxicity in the uterus and fallopian tubes (FT) using CP-induced toxicity in a rat model.

Neurodevelopmental Effects of Propranolol Treatment During Infancy in Infantile Hemangioma Patients.

Introduction And Aim: Propranolol is an effective treatment option for infantile hemangiomas, but there is still insufficient information about neurodevelopmental side effects of propranolol. In our study, the neurodevelopmental levels of infantile hemangioma patients receiving propranolol treatment were examined using the Bayley-III test.

Method: In our single-center, cross-sectional study, patients were recruited between 1 January 2020 and 31 December 2023.

Design: The present study is a cross-sectional and correlational study.

Methods: This study was conducted with 200 patients who met the research criteria and agreed to participate in the study and who were admitted to the internal medicine outpatient clinics of a university hospital in Elazig, eastern Turkey.

Design, Setting, And Participants: In the NEOSENTITURK MF-1803 prospective cohort registry trial, patients from 37 centers with cT1-4N1-3M0 disease treated with sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) or targeted axillary dissection (TAD) alone or with ypN-negative or ypN-positive disease after NAC were recruited between February 15, 2019, and January 1, 2023, and evaluated.

Determination of the relationship between frailty level and quality of life in elderly individuals with type 2 diabetes.

The aim of the study was to examine the relationship between frailty level and quality of life in elderly individuals with Type 2 diabetes. This descriptive and correlational study was conducted with 211 patients who applied to the diabetes outpatient clinic of a private and a public hospital in Istanbul between September and November 2022. The data were obtained by using the Personal Information Form, Edmonton Frail Scale and the Quality of Life in the Elderly Scale.

However, the COVID-19 pandemic has introduced unique challenges, with studies indicating that infections like COVID-19 may exacerbate psychiatric symptoms through neuroinflammatory pathways.

Brain malformation, neurodevelopmental disorder and epilepsy in a case of two rare genetic diseases: overlapping phenotype.

In most cases there is a single etiological factor causing neuromotor developmental delay and epilepsy while sometimes more than one gene may be involved. These include the autosomal recessive inherited CAMSAP1 gene, which is associated with cortical developmental malformations such as pachygyria and lissencephaly and the autosomal dominant inherited NBEA gene, which plays crucial roles in vesicle trafficking as well as synapse structure and function. Loss of function of both genes together is a well-known disease mechanism.

Evaluating single-dose methotrexate alone versus methotrexate with letrozole for treating ectopic pregnancy: a comparative study.

Purpose: Ectopic pregnancy (EP) constitutes 1-2% of all pregnancies. Methotrexate (MTX) is commonly used in treating EP, but it has some limitations and potential side effects. Clinical studies have shown that letrozole, an aromatase inhibitor, may potentially be used in conjunction with MTX therapy.

Risk factors for neurologic sequelae in children and adolescents with hemophilia after intracranial hemorrhage.

Background: Intracranial hemorrhage (ICH) is reportedly rare but has high morbidity and mortality risk in persons with hemophilia. Although the risk factors that facilitate bleeding are known, the factors affecting the sequelae are not well known.

Objectives: We planned to investigate the risk factors for neurologic sequelae in children and adolescents with hemophilia suffering from ICH.

3D printed PCL-nHAp composite implants for the treatment of segmental bone defects: in vivo application in a rabbit model.

The management and treatment of long bone defects are challenging clinical problems. In this study, in order to address the need for load bearing segmental defects, 3D printed cylindrical implants of poly(-caprolactone) (PCL) and nanohydroxyapatite (nHAp) composites were prepared and applied as lateral segments to the femurs of New Zealand white rabbits. The results obtained after 6 weeks of implantation were compared with the autografts.

Background: Gene polymorphisms of rearranged during transfection (RET) and its ligand neurturin (NRTN) are one of the focus of studies in the investigation of cancer pathogenesis, invasion, and metastasis. In this study, we aimed to examine the possible risk of breast cancer between RET G691S, L769L, S904S, and NRTN IVSI-663 polymorphisms and to evaluate serum NRTN, brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-2, MMP-9, and focal adhesion kinase (FAK) levels.

This paper investigates the geometric and structural properties of almost plastic pseudo-Riemannian manifolds, with a specific focus on three-dimensional cases. We explore the interplay between an almost plastic structure and a pseudo-Riemannian metric, providing a comprehensive analysis of the conditions that define pure metric plastic -Kählerian manifolds. In this context, the fundamental tensor field is symmetric and also represents another pure metric.

Effects of different toothpastes against erosive tooth wear of enamel and dentine in vitro.

Background: The increase in the prevalence of erosion lesions worldwide has led researchers to develop effective toothpastes with different ingredients to prevent erosion that can protect the tooth surface against acid attacks. There remains a lack of consensus in the literature regarding which toothpaste formulation exhibits the most effective preventive action against erosive tooth wear, highlighting the necessity for further investigation in this field. This study aimed to evaluate the preventive effect of brushing with toothpastes with different ingredients on enamel and dentine erosion.

Background: This study aims to identify factors predicting recurrence and unfavorable prognosis in cN+ patients who have undergone sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) following neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC).

Methods: The retrospective multi-centre "MF18-02" and the prospective multi-centre cohort registry trial "MF18-03" (NCT04250129) included patients with cT1-4N1-3M0 with SLNB+/- axillary lymph node dissection (ALND) post-NAC.

Results: A total of 2407 cN+ patients, who later achieved cN0 status after NAC and subsequently underwent SLNB, were studied.

Background: Proprioceptive information from the hips, knees, and ankles as well as joint coordination are important for maintaining and controlling balance. Regional receptors in the muscles, joints, skin, and tendons as well as proprioception in the knee joint provide the necessary joint activity and stability. Pain may occur with a decreased sense of balance and proprioception.

Background: Hemophilia B (HB), an X-linked recessive inherited bleeding disorder, exhibits a high prevalence among males.

Objectives: To present the first national cohort of persons with HB to define the demographics, clinical characteristics, and treatment patterns in Turkey.

Methods: This multicenter, retrospective study included 433 alive persons with HB registered in 35 centers between 1961 and 2018.

Clinical spectrum of primary hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis: experience of reference centers in Central and Southeast Anatolia.

Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) is a life-threatening disease, with a high mortality if left untreated. In addition, the disease has unique diagnostic challenges. Therefore, despite the existing guidelines on management, current clinical practice data is informative on the course and outcome.

Search for Soft Unclustered Energy Patterns in Proton-Proton Collisions at 13 TeV.

The first search for soft unclustered energy patterns (SUEPs) is performed using an integrated luminosity of 138  fb^{-1} of proton-proton collision data at sqrt[s]=13  TeV, collected in 2016-2018 by the CMS detector at the LHC. Such SUEPs are predicted by hidden valley models with a new, confining force with a large 't Hooft coupling. In events with boosted topologies, selected by high-threshold hadronic triggers, the multiplicity and sphericity of clustered tracks are used to reject the background from standard model quantum chromodynamics.

Adaptation of the Shirom-Melamed Burnout Measure in Parents of Turkish Pediatric Oncology Patients.
