Understanding water color is important because it is influenced by biogeochemical constituents, directly affects human perceptions of water quality, and serves as a key water quality metric. This study evaluates the hue angle methodology for monitoring water quality dynamics, using the Gulf of Izmit in the Sea of Marmara as a case study. We employed in-situ water quality measurements, spectroradiometer data, and Sentinel-2 satellite imagery from campaigns in October 2021 and 2022.

Background: The study aimed at evaluating the role of thiol-disulphide balance parameters [native thiol (SH), total thiol (SH + SS), disulphide (SS), disulphide/native thiol ratio (% SS/SH), disulphide/total thiol ratio (% SS/Total Thiol) and native thiol/total thiol ratio (%SH/Total Thiol)], which are important oxidative stress markers in the congenital ureteropelvic junction (UPJ) stenosis, in the diagnosis of the disease, and its role in determining the need for surgery and follow-up.

Materials And Methods: This prospective study included 30 children diagnosed with congenital intrinsic ureteropelvic junction obstruction (UPJO) and a control group of 30 healthy children admitted to the pediatric clinic between January 2016 and February 2017. The children with UPJO underwent laparoscopic dismembered pyeloplasty.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the optical conductivity and magnetotransport properties of top-gated devices made from the topological insulator BiSe, focusing on how different carrier types within the material interact.
  • Findings reveal that the topologically protected surfaces are somewhat shielded from gate control due to trivial band-bending states but still show significant mobility changes based on external gate bias.
  • The research highlights that the optical conductivity is largely influenced by the topological surface states and is particularly affected by scattering from trivial states, suggesting potential uses in future plasmonic device designs.

  • Hemophagocytic syndrome (HPS) is a serious condition that can lead to heart failure, and this study aimed to find out which factors are predictors of developing heart failure in these patients.* -
  • Using CART analysis on 146 HPS patients, researchers discovered that factors like cardiothoracic ratio (CTR), NT-proBNP levels, and C-reactive protein (CRP) are significant predictors, with CTR being the most critical one.* -
  • The results underscore the importance of early identification of these predictors to improve patient outcomes and inform future research on managing heart failure in HPS.*

Diagnosis of pneumonia can be challenging, particularly the differential diagnosis of lower respiratory tract infection and pneumonia, acute respiratory failure, the diagnosis of nosocomial pneumonia and in case of treatment failure. As compared to conventional chest radiography and CT of the scan, sonography of the chest offers advantages. It could be demonstrated that it was even superior to chest radiography in the identification of pneumonic consolidations.

We report a pediatric patient with prolidase deficiency, caused by a mutation in the PEPD gene, which encodes the enzyme prolidase D, with a lupus-like clinic and marked dysmorphic features along with pulmonary, neurological, skeletal, and immune system involvement. In addition to being the first known case in the literature where Friedrich's ataxia and prolidase deficiency were observed together, we aimed to highlight that this diagnosis should be considered in patients with autoimmunity and additional systemic findings such as treatment-resistant skin lesions, intellectual disability, and pulmonary manifestations. Furthermore, we sought to compare this case with others documented in the literature.

This study hypothesizes that advanced machine learning (ML) models can more accurately predict certain critical water quality parameters in marine environments compared to conventional regression techniques. We specifically evaluated the spatio-temporal distribution of Chlorophyll-a (Chl-a) and Secchi Disk Depth (SDD) in the Gulf of Izmit using in-situ measurements and Sentinel-2 satellite imagery from October 2021 and 2022. Among the models tested, the Support Vector Regression (SVR) model showed better predictive performance, achieving the lowest RMSE for SDD (1.

A Heat Flux Sensor (HFS) facilitates the visualization of heat flow, unlike a temperature sensor, and is anticipated to be a key technology in managing waste heat. Recently, an HFS utilizing the Anomalous Nernst Effect (ANE) has been proposed garnering significant interest in enhancing the transverse thermopower. However, ideal materials for HFS not only require a large transverse thermopower but also meet several criteria including low thermal conductivity and a bipolar nature of the transverse thermopower, especially a negative transverse thermopower.

The growing demand for phycobiliproteins from microalgae generates a significant volume of by-products, such as extraction cakes. These cakes are enriched with products of interest for the cosmetics market, namely free fatty acids, particularly polyunsaturated (PUFA). In this work, two cakes, one of spirulina and one of , were valorized using innovative natural hydrophobic deep eutectic solvents (NaDES) based on alkanediols.

The kidney injury molecule (KIM)-1 is shed from proximal tubular cells in acute kidney injury (AKI), relaying tubular epithelial proliferation. Additionally, KIM-1 portends complex immunoregulation and is elevated after exposure to lipopolysaccharides. It thus may represent a biomarker in critical illness, sepsis, and sepsis-associated AKI (SA-AKI).

Ionic liquids (ILs) are an emerging materials' class with applications in areas such as energy storage, catalysis, and biomass dissolution and processing. Their physicochemical properties including surface tension, viscosity, density and their interplay between cation and anion chemistry are decisive in these applications. For many commercially available ILs, a full set of physicochemical data is not available.

To evaluate the feasibility of urgent ureteroscopy (uURS) and elective ureteroscopy (eURS) in the management of patients with renal colic due to ureteral stones. Patients who were operated for ureteral stones between September 2020 and March 2022 were determined retrospectively. The patients who were operated within the first 24 h constituted the uURS group, while the patients who were operated after 24 h were classified as eURS.

Objective: Transgender and gender diverse (TGD) people experience higher levels of stigma, discrimination, and interpersonal violence due to their gender identity and/or expression, particularly TGD people with a migration background. This study aimed to conduct and evaluate group psychotherapy for TGD migrants to provide opportunities for exploring and developing interpersonal skills and relationships.

Method: The group therapy included five individuals who identified as TGD and originated from the Middle East.

Semaphorin 4D (Sema4D), also known as CD100, is a multifunctional transmembrane protein with immunoregulatory functions. Upon the activation of immune cells, soluble Semaphorin 4D (sSema4D) is proteolytically cleaved from the membrane by metalloproteinases. sSema4D levels are elevated in various (auto-)inflammatory diseases.

  • Myelomeningocele (MMC) is a condition that affects many kids in developing countries like Turkey, and it can lead to kidney problems known as chronic kidney disease (CKD).
  • A study in Turkey looked at children with MMC to find out how many had different stages of CKD and what factors made their kidney health worse.
  • The results showed that 5.3% of the kids had CKD stage 5, and certain medical conditions were linked to an increased risk of serious kidney problems. To help these kids, doctors suggest taking early action in managing their bladder issues to prevent kidney failure.

  • The study focuses on evaluating children suspected of having a retrocaval ureter (RCU) during treatment for hydronephrosis, given that such cases are rarely diagnosed and can be easily missed.
  • A total of 13 patients were analyzed, with final diagnoses revealing 4 cases of RCU, 7 cases of ureteropelvic junction obstruction (UPJO), and 2 of duplicated collecting system.
  • Utilizing imaging techniques like ultrasonography, particularly with a stent in place, is crucial for confirming or ruling out RCU, and laparoscopic surgery can also help visually clarify the condition if needed.
