Cytoreductive surgery and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy outcomes in peritoneal carcinomatosis: 11-year tertiary-center experience.

Background: Cytoreductive Surgery (CRS) and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) are techniques developed for curative treatment of peritoneal carcinomatosis (PC). Studies have shown that CRS + HIPEC provides a survival advantage in PC, and long-term survival can be achieved in selected cases. This study aimed to evaluate CRS + HIPEC cases performed for curative purposes and to examine the prognostic factors.

Methods: Between July 2020 and November 2022, at least 2-year follow-ups of patients who underwent LSG for obesity were retrospectively analyzed. Patients with pre-existing asymptomatic gallstones during preoperative evaluation, those with UDCA treatment (group 1), and observation group (group 2).

Differential diagnosis of submucosal gastric tumors: gastric schwannomas misdiagnosed as GISTs.

Schwannomas commonly occur in the head and neck region but are rarely seen in the gastrointestinal tract; the stomach and small intestine are the most commonly involved sites. These tumors are usually misdiagnosed as gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) before histopathological confirmation due to radiological similarity. GI schwannomas show positivity for S100 protein and vimentin but are negative for CD 117 and CD 34, which helps in differentiating the tumor from GISTs.

Risk factors for neurologic sequelae in children and adolescents with hemophilia after intracranial hemorrhage.

Background: Intracranial hemorrhage (ICH) is reportedly rare but has high morbidity and mortality risk in persons with hemophilia. Although the risk factors that facilitate bleeding are known, the factors affecting the sequelae are not well known.

Objectives: We planned to investigate the risk factors for neurologic sequelae in children and adolescents with hemophilia suffering from ICH.

Background: Liver retraction management in laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) is challenging for surgeons, especially in patients with enlarged livers. Traditional methods, such as the Nathanson retractor (NR), often necessitate additional incisions, potentially increasing liver enzymes and increasing the risk of complications. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of the use of a Veress needle (VN), an alternative liver retraction technique, in LSG surgery compared with NR.

The present study aimed to provide experimental evidence that CDELNs (coffee-derived exosome-like nanoparticles) may be a candidate for the treatment or prevention of amyloid-β (Aβ)-induced Alzheimer's disease (AD). An in vitro Alzheimer's model was created with Aβ-induced toxicity in mouse hippocampal neuronal cells (HT-22). Aβ(1-42)-exposed cells were treated with different concentrations of CDELNs (1-50 μg/ml) and the viability of cells was analyzed.

Background: Various trainings focus on the submental muscles (SMs) for dysphagia rehabilitation because of their importance for swallowing safety and efficiency.
