Background: Transcutaneous electrical stimulation after breast cancer surgery has been utilized for various purposes, but the full efficacy of this treatment approach on postoperative symptoms remains unclear.

Aim: This study aimed to answer the question: Does transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation significantly impact postoperative patient outcomes in individuals undergoing breast cancer surgery?

Methods: A systematic review of randomized controlled trials was conducted. Because of the limited number of studies included, it was not feasible to perform a meta-analysis.

Neural invasion severity is a strong predictor of local recurrence in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma.

Background: In pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma, neural invasion is being increasingly recognized as an unfavorable predictor of patient outcomes. Neural invasion severity seems to have a stronger clinical impact on patient prognosis than neural invasion status alone. Therefore, this study aims to assess the impact of severity of neural invasion on overall survival and disease-free survival in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma.

A retrospective, multicentric, nationwide analysis of the impact of splenectomy on survival of pancreatic cancer patients.

Objective: Splenectomy is regularly performed in total and distal pancreatectomy due to technical reasons, lymph node dissection and radicality of the operation. However, the spleen serves as an important organ for competent immune function, and its removal is associated with an increased incidence of cancer and a worse outcome in some cancer entities (Haematologica 99:392-398, 2014; Dis Colon Rectum 51:213-217, 2008; Dis Esophagus 21:334-339, 2008). The impact of splenectomy in pancreatic cancer is not fully resolved (J Am Coll Surg 188:516-521, 1999; J Surg Oncol 119:784-793, 2019).

The effects of microsurgical varicocelectomy performed for infertility on premature ejaculation.

Purpose: To investigate the effects of varicocelectomy on premature ejaculation (PE) in patients with varicocele and infertility.

Methods: A total of 82 sexually active patients aged 18 years or over who had undergone microscopic subinguinal varicocelectomy with a clinical diagnosis of varicocele in 14 urology clinics between October 2021 and March 2023 with primary infertility were evaluated prospectively Patients were evaluated using the Turkish validated form of the 'Premature Ejaculation Diagnostic Tool' (PEDT) scale. A PEDT score of 11 or above was taken to indicate the presence of PE.

Endoscopic papillectomy versus surgical ampullectomy for adenomas and early cancers of the papilla: a retrospective Pancreas2000/European Pancreatic Club analysis.

Objective: Ampullary neoplastic lesions can be resected by endoscopic papillectomy (EP) or transduodenal surgical ampullectomy (TSA) while pancreaticoduodenectomy is reserved for more advanced lesions. We present the largest retrospective comparative study analysing EP and TSA.

Design: Of all patients in the database, lesions with prior interventions, benign histology advanced malignancy (T2 and more), patients with hereditary syndromes and those undergoing pancreatoduodenectomy were excluded.

Background/aims: Radiological imaging advancements have led to a rise in pancreatic cyst diagnoses. Apart from imaging modalities, endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS) is an important method in the diagnosis of pancreatic cysts. The aim of this study is to determine the clinical, laboratory, biochemical, radiological, and endosonographic features of pancreatic cysts and to assess the effectiveness of EUS and computed tomography (CT) in differentiating between neoplastic and nonneoplastic cysts.

β-hydroxybutyrate is a metabolic regulator of proteostasis in the aged and Alzheimer disease brain.

Loss of proteostasis is a hallmark of aging and Alzheimer disease (AD). We identify β-hydroxybutyrate (βHB), a ketone body, as a regulator of protein solubility. βHB primarily provides ATP substrate during periods of reduced glucose availability, and regulates other cellular processes through protein interactions.

Development of In-Hospital and Discharge Protocols for Optimal Lipid-Lowering Strategies in Patients with Acute Coronary Syndrome in Türkiye: Expert Guidance.

Although guidelines strongly recommend low levels of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS), these goals are not achieved in many patients. We present expert recommendations for the in-hospital and post-discharge management of lipid-lowering therapy in ACS patients in Türkiye. A group of expert cardiologists comprising members of the Turkish Society of Cardiology and leading lipidologists who have all worked in national cardiology lipid working groups for at least 4 years, considered the optimal approach to lipid management in ACS patients in Türkiye, taking into account Turkish healthcare infrastructure and issues from real-world practice.

Collagen VI-related dystrophies (COL6RD) are a group of rare muscle disorders caused by mutations in specific genes responsible for type VI collagen production. It affects muscles, joints, and connective tissues, leading to weakness, joint problems, and structural issues. Currently, there is no effective treatment for COL6RD; its management typically addresses symptoms and complications.

Psychometric Properties of the Turkish Version of Spondyloarthritis Knowledge Questionnaire: A Methodological Study.

Background: Information and education are recommended for patients with inflammatory arthritis including spondyloarthritis (SpA). However, there is no Turkish instrument available to measure the knowledge level of patients with SpA. The study aimed to translate the Spondyloarthritis Knowledge Questionnaire (SPAKE) into Turkish and investigate its validity and reliability.

Mental health service utilization among patients followed up in tertiary HIV/AIDS clinics in Turkey: A need for integrated care.

Objectives: Mental health (MH) care for people living with HIV (PLWH) emerges as an important unmet need, yet there are no integrated HIV-MH clinics in Turkey. Our aim is to determine MH service use and its associated factors in PLWH followed up in the HIV/AIDS outpatient clinics in Istanbul/Turkey.

Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted at the HIV/AIDS outpatient clinics of the Infectious Diseases (ID) departments in hospitals affiliated with the ACTHIV-IST Study Group.

Comparing ovarian reserve parameters after laparoscopic endometrioma resection in the follicular vs. luteal phase: a prospective cohort study.

A Nomogram Predicting Testicular Sperm Extraction Success in Men With Non-obstructive Azoospermia: A Multi-center Study.

Objective: To develop an efficient and easy-to-use nomogram that can predict testicular sperm extraction (TESE) success in men with non-obstructive azoospermia (NOA) by using pre-operative parameters.

Materials And Methods: Data of 3093 men who underwent TESE for NOA were included in this study. Demographic data, testis volumes, presence of varicocele, length of infertility, history of previous surgeries, history of genitourinary infections, smoking status, chromosome abnormalities, presence of Y-chromosome microdeletion, family history of infertility, testis biopsy, surgical data, sperm retrieval rate, final pathology obtained at TESE, follicle-stimulating hormone, luteinizing hormone, and testosterone levels were recorded.

The precise classification of copy number variants (CNVs) presents a significant challenge in genomic medicine, primarily due to the complex nature of CNVs and their diverse impact on rare genetic diseases (RGDs). This complexity is compounded by the limitations of existing methods in accurately distinguishing between benign, uncertain, and pathogenic CNVs. Addressing this gap, we introduce CNVoyant, a machine learning-based multi-class framework designed to enhance the clinical significance classification of CNVs.

The investigation of SNP in SOCS2 gene and its effect on milk yield, fat, protein, and somatic cell count in Awassi ewes.

Background: Livestock farmers face financial losses every year because milk yield and components are severely affected by udder diseases. These udder infections attract the immune response from the host and lead to the influx of neutrophils into milk to fight infection and thus the number of somatic cell count (SCC) is increased. The SCC value of milk could be used as an important indicator in detecting clinical mastitis in dairy animals.
