Has Outcome of Subarachnoid Hemorrhage Changed With Improvements in Neurosurgical Services?

Background and Purpose- Though reports suggest decreasing fatality rates of subarachnoid hemorrhage with time, trends in outcome are not reported much especially from developing countries. This study was to analyze changes in outcome across 2 decades and elucidate probable factors. Methods- Prospective databases during 1996 to 2015 were reviewed for neurological outcome at 3 months in relation to demographics, Hunt and Hess grade, Fisher grade, and definitive treatment; and compared between 2 decades, contrasted by establishment of intensive care unit with continuous monitoring and other advancements.

Comparative evaluation of H&H and WFNS grading scales with modified H&H (sans systemic disease): A study on 1000 patients with subarachnoid hemorrhage.

The comparative studies on grading in subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) had several limitations such as the unclear grading of Glasgow Coma Scale 15 with neurological deficits in World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies (WFNS), and the inclusion of systemic disease in Hunt and Hess (H&H) scales. Their differential incremental impacts and optimum cut-off values for unfavourable outcome are unsettled. This is a prospective comparison of prognostic impacts of grading schemes to address these issues.

Primary Retroperitoneal Inter-aorto-Caval Paraganglioma of the Organ of Zuckerkandl.

Tumour that arise from chromaffin cells at extra-adrenal locations are termed paragangliomas which are rare tumour. The organ of Zuckerkandl located along aortic bifurcation is the most common site of their occurrence. Herein, we report a case of 20-year-old male with large abdomino-pelvic paraganglioma of the organ of zuckerkandl with multiple pedicles to abdominal aorta.

Does the impact of elective temporary clipping on intraoperative rupture really influence neurological outcome after surgery for ruptured anterior circulation aneurysms?--A prospective multivariate study.

Background: Elective temporary clipping (ETC) is increasingly used in surgery for aneurysms. This study was to assess whether the impact of ETC on intraoperative aneurysmal rupture (IAR) translates into neurological outcome.

Methods: Patients who underwent surgery for ruptured anterior circulation aneurysms were prospectively studied for various factors related to ETC, IAR and neurological outcome at 3 months.
