Its presentation varies depending on the arterial beds involved. We report 3 cases out of around 150 cases of TA with rare initial presentations of brachial plexopathy caused by an axillary artery aneurysm, complicated type A intramural hematoma, and renal artery aneurysms along with abdominothoracic TA presenting as a pulsatile abdominal mass.

Methods: The Kerala Atrial Fibrillation Registry is a prospective multicentre cohort study in Kerala, India, and the largest prospective AF registry in South Asia.
Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) of Alzheimer's disease (AD) have identified a large number of susceptibility genes, but most of AD heritability remains unexplained, implying the existence of additional genes. Furthermore, the majority of the GWAS have been conducted in people of European descent, and the genes important for AD susceptibility in people of African descent have been underexplored. In this hypothesis-generating prospective cohort study, we genotyped 191 African Americans (AAs) from three longitudinal cohorts on aging for the IgG3 allotype GM6, which is expressed exclusively in people of African descent, and assessed its interaction with IGHG, FCGRIIB, and HLA-DRB1 genes.

Wernicke's encephalopathy (WE) is a rare, life-threatening condition in which thiamine deficiency causes dysfunction of the Kreb's cycle, accumulation of lactic acid in the brain tissues, and irreversible cognitive impairment. Prompt treatment with IV thiamine can reverse the process. The classic Wernicke's triad of ataxia, memory issues, and ocular abnormalities is not often present.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFAn electrocardiogram on the day after implantation of a dual-chamber pacemaker revealed 2 closely coupled pacing spikes at 100-ms intervals, with the latter being on the trailing edge of the paced QRS complex. Differential diagnoses of such closely coupled pacing pulses include atrial lead displacement, lead reversal on the pulse generator, ventricular premature complex in the post-atrial ventricular blanking period, and backup pacing pulse following a loss of capture. Critical analysis of the pacemaker timing intervals led to the mechanism and cause of the problem.

Learning causal relationships relies on understanding how often one event precedes another. To investigate how dopamine neuron activity and neurotransmitter release change when a retrospective relationship is degraded for a specific pair of events, we used outcome-selective Pavlovian contingency degradation in rats. Conditioned responding was attenuated for the cue-reward contingency that was degraded, as was dopamine neuron activity in the midbrain and dopamine release in the ventral striatum in response to the cue and subsequent reward.
