: Totally endoscopic techniques have become increasingly popular in cardiac surgery, with minimally invasive mitral valve repair emerging as an effective alternative to median sternotomy. This approach could be particularly advantageous for patients with Noonan syndrome, who often present with structural thoracic anomalies and other comorbidities like bleeding disorders. Endoscopic mitral valve surgery is rapidly establishing itself as the new standard of care for mitral valve operations, demonstrating both safety and efficacy.

While the benefits often outweigh the risks, several challenges are encountered that are not present in conventional surgical approaches. Unilateral pulmonary edema (UPE) after mitral interventions performed through a right-sided approach is a rare but potentially life-threatening event.

It has been used with increasing success as a surgical procedure, greatly influenced by advances in diagnostic and prognostic tools. The aim of this paper was to study potential implications of C-reactive protein (CRP) in patients who underwent heart transplants.

However, the postoperative complications of transplant patients remain a challenge for clinicians. The objective of our study was to evaluate the effect of preoperative chronic HF treatment on the occurrence of in-hospital complications.

An endomyocardial biopsy (EMB) is "the gold standard" diagnostic procedure used in HT rejection surveillance. The aim of this study is to provide a detailed analysis of the histopathological characteristics of the EMB and to investigate if there is a correlation between some histopathological changes, such as fibrosis, vasculitis, Quilty effect (Q.

The gold standard for diagnosis is represented by the measurement of LV end-diastolic pressure (LVEDP) during cardiac catheterization, but it has the disadvantage of being an invasive procedure. This study aimed to investigate the correlation between LVEDP and cardiac serum biomarkers such as natriuretic peptides (mid-regional pro-atrial natriuretic peptide [MR-proANP], B-type natriuretic peptide [BNP], and N-terminal prohormone BNP [NT-proBNP]), soluble ST2 (sST2), galectin-3 and mid-regional pro-adrenomedullin (MR-proAMD).

Aortic valve pathology leads to pathophysiological changes in left ventricular vascularization that may prevent adequate cardioplegic distribution. The objective of the study was to ascertain whether the use of Bretschneider cardioplegia in aortic valve surgery yields different outcomes for male and female patients.

Genes like Fibrillin-1 (FBN1), Filamin A (FLNA), matrix metalloproteinase 2 (MMP2), and SRY-box transcription factor 9 (SOX9) are known to influence mitral valve pathology but knowledge of the exact mechanism is far from clear. Data regarding serum parameters, transesophageal echocardiography, and genetic and histopathologic parameters were investigated in 54 patients who underwent cardiovascular surgery for mitral valve regurgitation.

The purpose of this review is to present a comprehensive overview of the literature published up to February 2024 in the Medline database regarding the impact of aging on the mitral valve.

Out of the 3291 publications that deal with mitral valve embryology, 215 refer to mitral valve genetics and 83 were selected for further analysis. After reviewing these data, we advocate for the importance of a gene-based therapy that should be available soon, to prevent or treat non-invasively the valvular degeneration.

Background: Aortic dissection (AD) is a critical heart condition with potentially severe outcomes. Our study aimed to investigate the existence of a "weekend effect" in AD by examining the correlation between patient outcomes and whether their treatment occurred on weekdays versus weekends.
Methods: Specifically, we prospectively analysed the effect of weekday and weekend treatment on acute AD patient outcomes, both before surgical intervention and during hospitalization, for 124 patients treated from 2019-2021, as well as during 6 months of follow-up.
Background: Postoperative atrial fibrillation (AF) has a complex etiology, and beta-blockers are commonly recommended for its pharmacological prevention. This study aims to assess the impact of beta-blocker therapy on postoperative AF occurrence in patients undergoing aortic valve replacement, mitral valve replacement, surgical revascularization of the myocardium, or a combination of these procedures.
Methods: The study encompassed 472 patients who received aortic valve replacement, mitral valve replacement, surgical revascularization, or their combination.
: Heart transplant is currently the final step in treating patients with heart failure. The success of this procedure is strongly connected to potential complications such as postoperative heart failure, infections, graft rejection, graft vasculopathy, and kidney failure. Thus, identifying potential prognostic factors for patients' outcome is of utmost importance.

We present a case of an infant with ALCAPA and severe heart failure. What sets this case apart is the utilization of speckle-tracking echocardiography as a non-invasive method for assessing global and regional myocardial function before and after surgical intervention.

There have been recent developments in the care and diagnostic plan for AAS. A substantial clinical index of suspicion is required to identify AASs before irreversible fatal consequences arise because of their indefinite symptoms and physical indicators.

This results in carotid artery stenosis and is responsible for atherothrombotic stroke and ischemic injury. Low-grade plaque inflammation determines biological stability and lesion progression.

Materials And Methods: This was a prospective study performed in General Surgery Clinic, between 2016-2018. The study comprised 67 patients divided into two groups: A (29 patients who underwent negative pressure wound therapy) and B (38 patients who underwent conventional wound therapy).
(1) Background: Although transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) significantly improves long-term outcomes of symptomatic severe aortic stenosis (AS) patients, long-term mortality rates are still high. The aim of our study was to identify potential inflammatory biomarkers with predictive capacity for post-TAVR adverse events from a wide panel of routine biomarkers by employing ML techniques. (2) Methods: All patients diagnosed with symptomatic severe AS and treated by TAVR since January 2016 in a tertiary center were included in the present study.

Background: The platelet-to-albumin ratio (PAR), leucocyte-to-albumin ratio (LAR), neutrophil percentage-to-albumin ratio (NPAR), and monocyte-to-albumin ratio (MAR) represent easily reproducible markers, which may predict the outcomes in various diseases. Early postoperative complications might appear after heart transplantation, such as infections, diabetes mellitus type 2 (DM2), acute graft rejection, and atrial fibrillation (AFib).
Objective: The aim of our study was to investigate the PAR, LAR, NPAR, and MAR values before and after heart transplantation, and the associations of the preoperative levels of these markers with the presence of postoperative complications in first two months after surgery.

In contemporary practice, percutaneous closure of the patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) has become the procedure of choice. While the surgical ligation of ductus arteriosus ensures an immediate and definitive obliteration of the ductus, this therapeutic option is rarely used and reserved for situations when percutaneous solution is unsuitable. In this manuscript, we summarize the clinical and intraoperative findings of consecutive adult patients referred to our Institution in an interval of 10 years for surgical treatment of PDA.
