A chemoenzymatic synthesis of the title compound has been developed using an efficient and highly enantioselective lipase-catalyzed acylation in a hydrophobic ionic liquid, [bmim][PF], followed by a diastereoselective asymmetric dihydroxylation as the key steps for incorporating the stereogenic centers.
