We assessed the diagnostic performance of the Narrow-Band Imaging (NBI) International Colorectal Endoscopic Classification (NICE) and the Japan NBI Expert Team classification (JNET) in predicting histological outcomes of advanced colorectal lesions. Additionally, we evaluated the sensitivity and positive predictive value (PPV) of the JNET and NICE classifications individually for high-grade lesions (including HGD adenomas, intramucosal carcinomas, and T1 carcinomas). This was a retrospective analysis of prospectively collected data, involving 211 patients (130 men, mean age 60 years) who underwent colonoscopy with endoscopic resection of advanced colorectal neoplasia (lesions ≥ 10 mm).

Tacrine is a centrally active non-competitive reversible acetylcholinesterase inhibitor. It also exerts antagonising activity against -methyl-D-aspartate receptors. Tacrine was approved for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease in 1993, but was withdrawn from clinical use in 2013 because of its hepatotoxicity and gastrointestinal side effects.

Background: Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is associated with a very poor prognosis, with near-identical incidence and mortality. According to the World Health Organization Globocan Database, the estimated number of new cases worldwide will rise by 70% between 2020 and 2040. There are no effective screening methods available so far, even for high-risk individuals.

Background: There is no single gold standard for investigation of gastrointestinal motility function. Wireless motility monitoring involves a novel concept which provides a complex information on gastrointestinal function (gastrointestinal transit time, intra-luminal pH, pressure and temperature). Gastrointestinal motility functions of experimental pigs are very similar to those of humans.

Background: Coverage by examinations is a crucial indicator of the future impact on the burden of colorectal cancer (CRC). The study aimed to evaluate coverage by examinations associated with CRC screening and early cancer detection of CRC in the Czech Republic. The burden of CRC was also assessed.

(1) Background: this prospective study was focused on detailed analysis of the mutation heterogeneity in colorectal lesions removed during baseline (index) colonoscopy to identify patients at high risk of early occurrence of metachronous adenomas. (2) Methods: a total of 120 patients after endoscopic therapy of advanced colorectal neoplasia size ≥10 mm (index lesion) with subsequent surveillance colonoscopy after 10-18 months were included. In total, 143 index lesions and 84 synchronous lesions in paraffin blocks were divided into up to 30 samples.

Introduction: High resolution anorectal manometry (HRAM) is a diagnostic method indicated in patients with anorectal dysfunction. The aim of the study was to evaluate the prevalence of anorectal dysfunctions and to assess therapeutic consequences.

Methods: Retrospective data of consecutive patients referred to HRAM in the period from March 2019 to February 2021 were evaluated.

A substantial body of literature has provided evidence that type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and colorectal neoplasia share several common factors. Both diseases are among the leading causes of death worldwide and have an increasing incidence. In addition to usual risk factors such as sedentary lifestyle, obesity, and family history, common pathophysiological mechanisms involved in the development of these diseases have been identified.

Article Synopsis
  • This study looks at how the bacteria in the stomach might change when someone develops stomach cancer over a 4-year period.
  • Researchers tested 179 people with different stomach issues and found that certain types of bacteria were linked to the progression from less severe problems to cancer.
  • They discovered a group of four bacteria types that could help predict if someone’s stomach issue could get worse, especially in cases where it becomes more serious over time.

Presented selected case reports are focused on the individual cases of patients suffering from functional anorectal disorders. During the examination algorithm, the emphasis is on 3D high-resolution anorectal manometry, which is a useful diagnostic technique and helps to understand the pathophysiological mechanisms in the field of functional anorectal disorders. Thanks to a comprehensive examination an individualized treatment plan can be determined for each patient.

Complex anorectal examination including a detailed medical history, physical proctological examination and evaluation of the sensorimotor and structural function of the anorectum is essential for the diagnosis and therapeutic management of functional anorectal dysfunction. The aim of the work is to provide an overview of diagnosing functional anorectal disorders according to the new update and consensus statement of the International Anorectal Physiology Working Group (IAPWG) with a focus on indications, a standardized examination protocol and introduction of the new London classification of anorectal dysfunction. The indications are: fecal incontinence, defecation disorders, functional pelvic (anorectal) pain, evaluation before an anorectal intervention and before planned delivery to assess the function of a previously traumatized anal sphincter.

The adenoma detection rate (ADR) is the primary quality indicator for colonoscopies. The polyp detection rate (PDR) is available from administrative data and does not depend on histology verification. The correlation between PDR and ADR and the ADR/PDR conversion factor in preventive colonoscopies were evaluated.

Oral sulphate solution (OSS) is a sulphate-based, low-volume bowel cleansing preparation taken in two doses of 500 mL, each followed by 1000mL of water or clear liquid. The primary objective of this observational study was to document compliance with the recommended hydration guidelines in a representative sample of the European population.  Prospective, non-interventional, multicentre study (NCT02630680, EUPAS9361) in patients prescribed OSS for colonoscopy preparation in routine clinical practice in Europe.

Objective: Gastrointestinal microbiota may be involved in associated gastric cancer development. The aim of this study was to explore the possible microbial mechanisms in gastric carcinogenesis and potential dysbiosis arising from infection.

Design: Deep sequencing of the microbial 16S ribosomal RNA gene was used to investigate alterations in paired gastric biopsies and stool samples in 58 subjects with successful and 57 subjects with failed anti- treatment, relative to 49 negative subjects.

Backround: Capsule colonoscopy might present an alternative to colonoscopy for colorectal neoplasia screening.

Aim: To assess the accuracy of second-generation capsule colonoscopy (CCE2) for colorectal neoplasia detection compared with conventional colonoscopy (CC).

Methods: From 2011-2015, we performed a multicenter, prospective, cross-over study evaluating the use of CCE2 as a possible colorectal cancer (CRC) screening test based on the assessment of the method's characteristics (accuracy) and safety and patient acceptance of the routine.

In developed countries, colorectal cancer represents one of the most common malignancy. Screening of colorectal cancer, as a tool of secondary prevention, lead to reduction of the incidence and mortality of this disease. It allows to capture not only the precancerous lesions, but also the earlier stages of colorectal cancer, which can be effectively treated.

In our study, we investigated the association between gut microbiota and -related gastric lesions in 47 subjects by deep sequencing of microbial 16S ribosomal RNA (rRNA) gene in fecal samples. The dominant phyla in fecal samples were , and with average relative abundances of 54.
