Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) causes a significant burden of acute respiratory illness across all ages, particularly for infants and older adults. Infants, especially those born prematurely or with underlying health conditions, face a high risk of severe RSV-related lower respiratory tract infections (LRTIs). Globally, RSV contributes to millions of LRTI cases annually, with a disproportionate burden in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).

Purpose Of Review: Worldwide, there is an increasing prevalence of hepatic diseases. The most common diseases include alcoholic-associated liver disease (ALD), metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease/ metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MAFLD/MASH) and viral hepatitis. While there are many important mediators of these diseases, there is increasing recognition of the importance of the inflammatory immune response in hepatic disease pathogenesis.

In India, pharmacy practice is still at a developing stage with the majority of the graduates taking the industry pathway. Currently, there are only a few pharmacists who have been board-certified by the Board of Pharmacy Specialities (BPS), which is the most established pharmacist board certification program globally. Even though India is the largest global exporter of generic medications, pharmacy practice is yet to gain stronghold within its healthcare scenarios.

Two by Two Factorial Design using Metformin and Curcumin for Second Primary Head and Neck Cancer Prevention Trial.

Objective: The 2x2 factorial design is an effective method that allows for multiple comparisons, especially in the context of interactions between different interventions, without substantially increasing the required sample size. In view of the considerable preclinical evidence for Curcumin and Metformin in preventing the development and progression of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC), this study describes the protocol of the clinical trial towards applying the drug combination in prevention of second primary tumors.

Methods: We have applied the trial design to a large phase IIB/III double-blind, multi-centric, placebo-controlled, randomized clinical trial to determine the safety and efficacy of Metformin and Curcumin in the prevention of second primary tumours (SPT) of the aerodigestive tract following treatment of HNSCC (n=1,500) [Clinical Registry of India, CTRI/2018/03/012274].

Understanding the Retention of Vaping Additives in the Lungs: Model Lung Surfactant Membrane Perturbation by Vitamin E and Vitamin E Acetate.

Deviations from the normal physicochemical and functional properties of pulmonary surfactants are associated with the incidence of lung injury and other respiratory disorders. This study aims to evaluate the alteration of the 2D molecular organization and morphology of pulmonary surfactant model membranes by the electronic cigarette additives α-tocopherol (vitamin E) and α-tocopherol acetate (vitamin E acetate), which have been associated with lung injury, termed e-cigarette or vaping-use-associated lung injury (EVALI). The model membranes used contained a 7:3 molar ratio of DPPC (1,2-dipalmitoyl--glycero-3-phosphocholine) and POPG (1-palmitoyl-2-oleoyl--glycero-3-phosphoglycerol) to which α-tocopherol and α-tocopherol acetate were added to form mixtures of up to 20 mol % additive.

Oral cancer is a cancer type that is widely prevalent in low-and middle-income countries with a high mortality rate, and poor quality of life for patients after treatment. Early treatment of cancer increases patient survival, improves quality of life and results in less morbidity and a better prognosis. To reach this goal, early detection of malignancies using technologies that can be used in remote and low resource areas is desirable.

Improving accuracy in nodal staging of oral cancer: Proposal of a new system.

Background: Despite introduction of extranodal extension (ENE) into the AJCC 8th edition of oral cancer staging, previous criticisms persist, such as limited discrimination between sub-stages and doubtful prognostic value of contralateral nodal disease. REIIBP is a lysine methyltransferase aberrantly expressed through alternative promoter usage of NSD2 locus in t(4;14)-translocated multiple myeloma (MM). Clinically, t(4;14) translocation is an adverse prognostic factor found in approximately 15% of MM patients. The contribution of REIIBP relative to other NSD2 isoforms as a dependency gene in t(4;14)-translocated MM remains to be evaluated.

Primary Tumor Staging for Oral Cancer and a Proposed Modification Incorporating Perineural Invasion: An International Multicenter Study.

The objective of this study is to determine if the incorporation of perineural invasion (PNI) into the T-classification would improve the prognostic performance of TNM-8. An international, multicenter study of 1049 patients with oral cavity squamous cell carcinoma that were treated from 1994 to 2018 is performed. Various classification models are developed within each T-category and evaluated using the Harrel-concordance index (C-index), Akaike-information criterion (AIC), and visual inspection.

Introduction: In the Indian subcontinent where tobacco chewing is rampant, composite 'bite' defects are common after oral cancer ablation, which comprise buccal mucosa, maxilla and mandible with or without skin. We recently identified a set of endothelial cell (EC)-enriched long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) in differentiated human primary cell types and described the role of the STEEL lncRNA in angiogenic patterning. We sought to further understand the role of EC-enriched lncRNAs in physiologic adaptation of the vascular endothelium.

Training nurse simulation educators at scale to improve maternal and newborn health: a case study from Bihar, India.

Background: Simulation has been shown to improve clinical and behavioral skills of birth attendants in low-resource settings at a low scale. Populous, low-resource settings such as Bihar, India, require large cadres of simulation educators to improve maternal and newborn health. It's unknown if simulation facilitation skills can be adopted through a train of trainers' cascade.

Oncological outcomes of compartmental surgery and wide local excision in oral tongue and floor of the mouth cancer.

Objectives: Oral tongue carcinomas represent more than half of the tumors arising in the oral cavity, a site with a high cancer specific mortality and impact on quality of life. Current guidelines are lacking for a standardized surgical approach of these tumors. The aim of this study is to compare two currently adopted surgical strategies, compartmental surgery (CTS) and wide local excision (WLE), with loco-regional control as the main oncological endpoint.
