In India, pharmacy practice is still at a developing stage with the majority of the graduates taking the industry pathway. Currently, there are only a few pharmacists who have been board-certified by the Board of Pharmacy Specialities (BPS), which is the most established pharmacist board certification program globally. Even though India is the largest global exporter of generic medications, pharmacy practice is yet to gain stronghold within its healthcare scenarios.

Objective: The 2x2 factorial design is an effective method that allows for multiple comparisons, especially in the context of interactions between different interventions, without substantially increasing the required sample size. In view of the considerable preclinical evidence for Curcumin and Metformin in preventing the development and progression of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC), this study describes the protocol of the clinical trial towards applying the drug combination in prevention of second primary tumors.

Methods: We have applied the trial design to a large phase IIB/III double-blind, multi-centric, placebo-controlled, randomized clinical trial to determine the safety and efficacy of Metformin and Curcumin in the prevention of second primary tumours (SPT) of the aerodigestive tract following treatment of HNSCC (n=1,500) [Clinical Registry of India, CTRI/2018/03/012274].

Deviations from the normal physicochemical and functional properties of pulmonary surfactants are associated with the incidence of lung injury and other respiratory disorders. This study aims to evaluate the alteration of the 2D molecular organization and morphology of pulmonary surfactant model membranes by the electronic cigarette additives α-tocopherol (vitamin E) and α-tocopherol acetate (vitamin E acetate), which have been associated with lung injury, termed e-cigarette or vaping-use-associated lung injury (EVALI). The model membranes used contained a 7:3 molar ratio of DPPC (1,2-dipalmitoyl--glycero-3-phosphocholine) and POPG (1-palmitoyl-2-oleoyl--glycero-3-phosphoglycerol) to which α-tocopherol and α-tocopherol acetate were added to form mixtures of up to 20 mol % additive.

Oral cancer is a cancer type that is widely prevalent in low-and middle-income countries with a high mortality rate, and poor quality of life for patients after treatment. Early treatment of cancer increases patient survival, improves quality of life and results in less morbidity and a better prognosis. To reach this goal, early detection of malignancies using technologies that can be used in remote and low resource areas is desirable.

Article Synopsis
  • Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) relapses in about 40% of patients after initial treatment, with mutations in STAT6 linked to these relapses and indicating a role in resistance to therapy.
  • Research shows that STAT6 mutations help DLBCL cells survive by reprogramming their surrounding environment and enhancing cell signaling, particularly after IL-4 stimulation.
  • The study identifies the increased expression of survival-related genes, including CCL17, which recruits helper T-cells to the tumor area, suggesting that STAT6 mutations change both the behavior of the cancer cells and the immune landscape in DLBCL.

Objectives: The incidence of young-onset oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is growing, even among non-smokers/drinkers. The effects of adverse histopathological features on long-term oncologic outcomes between the young and old are controversial and confounded by significant heterogeneity. Few studies have evaluated the socio-economic impact of premature mortality from OSCC.

Background: Despite introduction of extranodal extension (ENE) into the AJCC 8th edition of oral cancer staging, previous criticisms persist, such as limited discrimination between sub-stages and doubtful prognostic value of contralateral nodal disease. The purpose of this study was to compare our novel nodal staging system, based on the number of positive nodes and ENE, to the AJCC staging system in surgically treated patients.

Methods: Retrospective analysis of 4710 patients with oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) treated with surgery±adjuvant therapy in 8 institutions in Australia, North America and Asia.

Evidence suggests that e-cigarette use (vaping) increases cardiovascular disease risk, but decades are needed before people who vape would develop pathology. Thus, murine models of atherosclerosis can be utilized as tools to understand disease susceptibility, risk and pathogenesis. Moreover, there is a poor understanding of how risk factors for atherosclerosis (i.

REIIBP is a lysine methyltransferase aberrantly expressed through alternative promoter usage of NSD2 locus in t(4;14)-translocated multiple myeloma (MM). Clinically, t(4;14) translocation is an adverse prognostic factor found in approximately 15% of MM patients. The contribution of REIIBP relative to other NSD2 isoforms as a dependency gene in t(4;14)-translocated MM remains to be evaluated.

Worldwide, millions of people are co-exposed to arsenic and cadmium. Environmental exposure to both metals is linked with a higher risk of atherosclerosis. While studies have characterized the pro-atherosclerotic effects of arsenic and cadmium as single agents, little is known about the potential effects of metal mixtures, particularly at low doses.

Article Synopsis
  • Lung infections can make kids and older people sick, and special immune cells called alveolar macrophages help fight them off.
  • Scientists studied these immune cells to understand how they change when there's an infection in the lungs.
  • They found that these cells get a special marker called CD11b and that this helps them work better with other immune cells to protect against the infection.

Non-financial reporting (NFR) has become crucial to corporate sustainability strategies as companies demonstrate their commitment to the environmental, social, and governance actions outlined in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Agenda 2030. Among the various mandatory NFR initiatives, Sustainability Reporting (SR) has emerged as a widely adopted practice by companies worldwide. A gap that the study addresses is the theoretical perspectives on SR in the context of SDG.

Introduction: In the Indian subcontinent where tobacco chewing is rampant, composite 'bite' defects are common after oral cancer ablation, which comprise buccal mucosa, maxilla and mandible with or without skin. These are often reconstructed with soft tissue flaps like anterolateral thigh flaps, which provide ample soft tissue replacement. A common problem is palatal dehiscence where these flaps are inset, due to the dynamics of speaking and chewing, as well as the gravitational pull on the flap.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the link between posterior compartment prolapse (like rectocele, enterocele, and intussusception) and anal incontinence (AI) in women who have intact anal sphinters, controlling for anal sphincter trauma.
  • Out of 1133 women analyzed, 13% reported experiencing AI, and significant posterior compartment prolapse was found in 61% during clinical exams, with 56% identified on imaging techniques.
  • While there was a higher rate of AI among women with ultrasound-diagnosed enterocele, the association was not significant after adjusting for confounders, indicating that posterior compartment prolapse is not linked to AI in women without anal sphincter trauma.
