We attempted to assess Menopause-Specific Quality of Life (MENQOL) and attitude towards menopause with respect to 'years after menopause' and also association between MENQOL and attitude towards menopause. One hundred and eighty-two Bengali Hindu postmenopausal women (aged 42 to 65 years) living in Kolkata, India participated in the study. We hypothesized that consanguineous marriage will remain a risk factor for pregnancy outcome and offspring mortality, but the development in demographic, socioeconomic conditions and increased utilization of maternal and child health care services during postglobalization era would work as a buffer in the reduction of child mortality rates. Data fromNational Family Health Surveys 4(2015-2016) and 5(2019-2021) were pooled and used for the analysis. Binary logistic regression and Cox proportional hazard regression models were used to examine the effects of close (CC) and distant (DC) consanguinity on spontaneous abortion, stillbirth, neonatal mortality, post-neonatal, and child mortality respectively compared to non-consanguinity (NC).

A convenient route was envisaged toward the synthesis of dihydrochelerythrine (DHCHL), 4 by intramolecular Suzuki coupling of 2-bromo-N-(2-bromobenzyl)-naphthalen-1-amine derivative 5 via in situ generated arylborane. [reaction: see text] Two formal total syntheses of the (-)-salicylihalamides, based on chiral pool approaches, are reported. D-glucose and L-rhamnose were used to prepare advanced intermediates 23 and 54, which can be converted in three or four steps, respectively, to the target compounds. The synthesis of 23 from a known D-glucose-derivative was accomplished in 12 steps and 17% overall yield, and the synthesis of 54 from a known L-rhamnose-derivative was done in nine steps and 6% overall yield.

The formal total synthesis of the (+)-salicylihalamides A and B is detailed, utilizing a chiral pool approach to generate the three stereogenic centers and a ring-closing metathesis (RCM) for the formation of the macrocyclic ring structure. Starting from a known glucose-derived alcohol, the formal total synthesis was achieved in an efficient 13-step protocol in 26% overall yield. It was found that substitution at the remote phenolic group significantly influenced the ratio of the E- and Z-double bond products in the RCM step.
