Knowledge of Biomedical Waste Management Amidst the Clinical Students of Dental College, Tamilnadu State, India - A Cross Sectional Observational Study.

Background: The objective of study was to assess the knowledge and awareness of the management of biological waste (BMW) among undergraduate students of Dental College, Tamilnadu state.

Materials And Methods: Among the students of Dental College in Tamilnadu state, India, a cross-sectional observational research was conducted. A pre-designed questionnaire was distributed to the students.

Targeted expression of cystatin restores fertility in cysteine protease induced male sterile tobacco plants.

Fertility restoration in male sterile plants is an essential requirement for their utilization in hybrid seed production. In an earlier investigation, we have demonstrated that the targeted expression of a cysteine protease in tapetal cell layer resulted in complete male sterility in tobacco transgenic plants. In the present investigation, we have used a cystatin gene, which encodes for a cysteine protease inhibitor, from a wild peanut, Arachis diogoi and developed a plant gene based restoration system for cysteine protease induced male sterile transgenic tobacco plants.

Ascaris lumbricoides in the lacrimal passage.

Ascariasis is caused by the roundworm, Ascaris lumbricoides. We report an additional case of live Ascaris lumbricoides removed from the lacrimal puncta of a 10-year-old boy.

Determination of isoniazid in pharmaceutical preparations by reaction with radiochloramine-B.

A method has been developed for the determination of isoniazid (INH) at microgram level in pharmaceutical preparations based on the oxidation of isoniazid by radiochloramine-B. Interference of vitamin C has been overcome by precipitation as lead ascorbate and that of rifampicin and p-aminosalicylic acid by selective extraction. Amounts as low as 25 micrograms of INH can be determined.

Determination of the protonation constant of chloramine-B.

The protonation constant of chloramine-B has been determined at pH < 3.3 by an ionexchange method. The value found is 61 +/- 5.

Haemolymph protein concentration of Scylla serrata : assessment of quantitative methods and intra-individual variability.

The suitability of micro-Kjeldahl, biuret and Folin-Ciocalteu methods of protein determination in analysing the haemolymph protein concentration of Scylla serrata was assessed. It was found that biuret method is simple, reliable and the results are consistent. Intra-individual factor as a function of time of day is also responsible for individual variability in the haemolymph protein concentration of the crab.
