This study reflects the efficacy of planned early speech therapy on post laryngectomy rehabilitation. Not only do a larger number of laryngectomees acquire intelligible esophageal speech where therapy is instituted early but also the pace of development and quality of the speech is far superior when compared to those laryngectomees in whom speech therapy was delayed. This paper unequivocally supports the institution of planned early speech therapy in the successful rehabilitation of the laryngectomee.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFIn order to investigate the modes of inheritance of serum immunoglobulin E (IgE) levels and atopic disease, serum IgE levels and data on allergic disease were obtained from 42 families ascertained through asthmatic children visiting an allergy clinic. Although the mean IgE levels were elevated (mean 637 U/ml), the prevalence of atopic disease in this population was surprisingly low. When the data were analyzed using complex segregation analysis, no major locus could be detected.

An enzyme solely localized in the nuclear fraction of rat liver was found to convert 3-hydroxyanthranilic acid into a red product that was isolated and crystallized from the reaction mixture. The product was identified as cinnabarinic acid (2-amino-3-oxo-3H-phenoxazine-1,9-dicarboxylic acid) by comparing its properties with synthetic cinnabarinic acid.
