Background: Limited research has delved into the effects of work characteristics on premenstrual symptoms (PMS) in women, which can influence work performance and overlook potential hazards for women in their work environments. This study aimed to investigate the impact of shift work and working in a clean room on premenstrual symptoms, menstrual status, and menstrual pain among employed females in an electronics manufacturer.

Methods: A retrospective cohort study was conducted on menstruating female employees between August and December 2014, aged 18-55, who received regular employee health checks.

This was a longitudinal study of perinatal depressive symptoms among females employed in a large electronics manufacturer in Taiwan, conducted from August 2015 through October 2016. We used questionnaires to collect data on perceived job strain, social support, and the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) scores at three perinatal time-points (pregnancy, delivery, and return to the workplace). Of the 153 employees who agreed to participate, 82 completed the three stages.

Background: Mydriatic drugs are often used in ophthalmic clinics for pupil dilatation to assess the optic nerve and retina. Clinical studies have indicated that an increase in intraocular pressure (IOP) after pupil dilation is noted in open-angle glaucoma patients, those with narrow angles and in normal subjects. Asians are more likely to have narrow angles.

Background: Although breastfeeding-friendly workplaces are provided to promote an employed mother's breastfeeding intention, few studies have explored breastfeeding intentions and behavior after a mother returns to work on a shift work or non-shift work schedule. To explore the impact of breastfeeding-friendly support on the intention of working mothers with different work schedules to continue breastfeeding, we conducted a survey at a female labor-intensive electronics manufacturer in Taiwan from August 2011 to April 2012.

Methods: Female workers who met the inclusion criteria (maternity leave between January 2009 and January 2011) were invited to participate in the survey.

Most Taiwanese women continue to work throughout pregnancy. Few studies have investigated the prevalence of antenatal depressive symptoms in employed women and their relationship with work-related factors. We explored the relations of work-related factors, including perceived job strain and workplace support, to depressive symptoms among pregnant Taiwanese employees.

This study explored the prevalence of premenstrual symptoms in 7,193 female employees aged 18-55 years in a large electronics manufacturer in Taiwan from August 2014 to December 2014 and examined whether regular exercise was associated with premenstrual symptoms. Information was collected on demographics, lifestyle, menstrual history, menstrual pain, and premenstrual symptoms.

Yoga classes designed for women with premenstrual syndrome are available, but their efficacy is unclear. We investigated the effects of 12 weeks' yoga exercise (yoga intervention) on premenstrual symptoms in menstruating females in Taiwan. Sixty-four subjects completed the yoga intervention, and before and after the intervention filled out a structured self-report questionnaire about their demographics, personal lifestyle, menstrual status, baseline menstrual pain scores, premenstrual symptoms, and health-related quality of life.

Few studies have focused on adverse relations of job strain to health in disabled employees by gender. In this study, the author explores gender differences in work-related stress, social support, and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) among 106 disabled employees in an electronics manufacturing plant during 2012-2013, using questionnaire data on demographics, perceived work-related stress, the Beck Depression Inventory, the Chinese version of the Job Content Questionnaire (C-JCQ), and HRQoL. The prevalence of stress related to workload, colleagues, and supervisor were 26.

Background: The association between visual impairment and mortality has been controversial. Moreover, literature on the relationship was very limited in the Asian population. The purpose of this study was to investigate whether visual impairment increases the 3-year risk of mortality in a cohort of urban Chinese elderly individuals.

Background: Despite the increasing number of large companies complying with the demands for a breastfeeding-friendly workplace, providing on-site lactation support, some mothers still find continuing to breastfeed a challenge. We postulated that greater support and encouragement from the partner would be independently predictive of whether the mother would take advantage of workplace milk expression breaks and lactation rooms and continue to breastfeed after returning to work. To evaluate this hypothesis, we conducted a survey at a female labor-intensive electronics manufacturer in Taiwan.

Background: Although increasing numbers of large companies are complying with demands for a breastfeeding-friendly workplace by providing lactation rooms and breast-pumping breaks, the effectiveness for intention to use breast-pumping breaks to express breast milk among employed mothers is uncertain. To explore the impact of employees' perceived breastfeeding support from the workplace and the benefits of breastfeeding on a woman's intention to use breast-pumping breaks after returning to work, we conducted a survey at a female labor-intensive electronics manufacturer in Taiwan.

Subjects And Methods: A structured questionnaire survey was administered to 715 working mothers employed in an electronics manufacturing plant in Tainan Science Park in Southern Taiwan.

Little is known about the health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and work-related stress and its risk factors among white-collar businessmen and management workers that migrate to high-income developing countries. A structural questionnaire survey was administered to 156 white-collar Taiwanese management personnel of representative companies of their industries in Taiwan, who were assigned long-term job positions in China. Questionnaire content included demographics and medical history, self-reported physical and mental conditions, personal lifestyle and behavior, Beck Depression Inventory, and information on HRQoL.

Health-related quality of life (HRQOL) measures predict cause-specific mortality, but few studies have explored whether generic self-reported HRQOL measures are independently associated with mortality in community-dwelling older persons. We postulated that a general measure of HRQOL, the short form 36-item questionnaire (SF-36), would be independently predictive of mortality among community-dwelling older persons. To evaluate this hypothesis, we followed a fixed cohort of 4,424 community-dwelling older persons recruited from a 2000 population-based survey in Taiwan until 2003 and investigated whether HRQOL was predictive of 3-year mortality, even after adjusting for traditional clinical risk variables.

Background And Purpose: There are published norms of the 36-item short form of the Medical Outcomes Study Questionnaire (SF-36) for many countries, but few such studies have been conducted in Taiwan. The purpose of this study was to provide the norms for the SF-36 health status measure in urban, rural, and remote island community elderly populations, and to explore the relation between demographic or characteristic factors and the SF-36.

Methods: A structured questionnaire was used for door-to-door data collection in this survey of an urban, a rural, and a remote population (Shihpai, Yuli, and Kinmen, respectively, in Taiwan).
