Purpose: To determine how often non-mass lesions are seen in screening breast ultrasounds, and analyze their ultrasound features according to the ultrasound lexicon to find features suggestive of malignant non-mass lesions.

Methods: This study is a single center retrospective study for nonmass lesions on screening breast ultrasound. Among 21,604 patients who underwent screening breast US, there were 279 patients with nonmass lesions.

Background: Titanium (Ti-6Al-4 V) is used for fixation in LeFort I osteotomy, a procedure for treating midface deformities. This study assessed the biomechanical stabilities of two Mg alloys (WE43 and ZK60) as biodegradable alternatives and compared them against Ti using finite element analyses. The LeFort I osteotomy procedure was simulated, and various plate and screw configurations were tested.

Nonmass lesions (NMLs) on breast ultrasound lack clear definition and encompass a broad range of benign and malignant entities. Given anticipated inclusion of NMLs in the BI-RADS 6th edition, thorough understanding of these lesions will be critical for optimal management. To evaluate interreader agreement for classification of lesions on breast ultrasound as NMLs and to identify imaging features associated with malignancy in these lesions.

Background: Artificial intelligence-based computer-assisted diagnosis (AI-CAD) is increasingly used for mammographic exams, and its role in mammographic density assessment should be evaluated.

Purpose: To assess the inter-modality agreement between radiologists, automated volumetric density measurement program (Volpara), and AI-CAD system in breast density categorization using the Breast Imaging-Reporting and Data System (BI-RADS) density categories.

Material And Methods: A retrospective review was conducted on 1015 screening digital mammograms that were performed in Asian female patients (mean age = 56 years ± 10 years) in our health examination center between December 2022 and January 2023.

Article Synopsis
  • This study compared the accuracy (trueness) and physical properties of zirconia crowns made using five additive manufacturing methods against those made through subtractive manufacturing.* -
  • The research found that while differences in trueness were significant among the additive methods, all techniques produced crowns within clinically acceptable levels, although all additive groups displayed greater surface roughness and voids compared to the control group.* -
  • Overall, the additive manufactured zirconia crowns maintained typical zirconia characteristics, indicating their potential suitability for dental applications despite some quality concerns.*

The internal mammary lymph nodes (IMLNs) are a main pathway of metastasis in breast cancer, and breast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) plays an important role in staging that disease. We investigated the MRI parameters that can predict metastatic IMLNs and evaluated their diagnostic performance by comparing the breast MRI findings for metastatic and benign IMLNs. From January 2016 to December 2020, 474 cases of enlarged IMLNs on breast MRI were identified.

Background: Birt-Hogg-Dubé (BHD) syndrome is a rare autosomal dominant disorder characterized by fibrofolliculomas, renal tumors, pulmonary cysts, and recurrent pneumothorax. Pulmonary cysts are the cause of recurrent pneumothorax, which is one of the most important factors influencing patient quality of life. It is unknown whether pulmonary cysts progress with time or influence pulmonary function in patients with BHD syndrome.

Article Synopsis
  • Three-dimensional (3D) printers are being evaluated for their accuracy and surface quality in creating dental casts, important for various dental applications.
  • This study tested four types of dental casts printed by six different 3D printers using various technologies (FDM, DLP, SLA) to assess both trueness and surface characteristics.
  • Results indicated significant differences in trueness across different printers, with SLA printers producing the smoothest surfaces, while FDM printers displayed more visible layering.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the clinical performance of two intraoral scanners (IOSs) for creating cast-free zirconia crowns, assessing their marginal and internal gaps through a randomized clinical trial.
  • It involves 35 participants and compares crowns made from scans obtained via a confocal microscopy-based IOS and a dual camera triangulation-based IOS, using a replica technique for gap measurements.
  • The results indicate that the crowns from the dual camera triangulation IOS have acceptable gap measurements and are comparable to those created with the confocal IOS, suggesting both technologies are viable for clinical use in digital dentistry.

Purpose: Reversible aggravation of myelopathy symptoms was observed after the intake of taurine-rich foods in patients with venous congestive myelopathy (VCM) caused by a spinal arteriovenous shunt (SAVS), and the taurine-challenge test was applied to demonstrate an association between taurine and VCM.

Materials And Methods: The current study reviewed any aggravation history of myelopathy symptoms, including walking difficulty, after consuming taurine-rich foods among 133 consecutive patients with a SAVS from a prospective institutional database from June 2013 to February 2021. The type of taurine-rich foods, demographic data, arteriovenous shunt level, and follow-up periods were obtained.

Cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) represents approximately 3% of gastrointestinal malignancies worldwide and constitutes around 10-15% of all primary liver cancers, being only second to hepatocellular carcinoma. Mortality from CCA has been on the rise in recent decades, and in the United States alone there has been a 36% increase in CCA from 1999 to 2014, with over 7000 CCA mortalities since 2013. Targeted therapies, which have been gaining interest due to their greater specificity toward cancer cells, have only recently started gaining FDA approval for the treatment of CCA.

Mutation of the BRAF proto-oncogene is found in approximately 10% of colorectal cancers (CRC), with much of the mutation conferred by a V600E mutation. Unlike other CRC subtypes, BRAF-mutant CRC have had relatively limited response to conventional therapies and overall poor survival. We present the case of a 75-year-old man with severe nonischemic cardiomyopathy on a LifeVest who was found to have a transverse colonic mass with widespread hepatic metastatic disease and was subsequently found to have BRAF-mutant CRC (MSI High/dMMR).

Purpose: To investigate clinical outcomes of drug-eluting bead transarterial chemoembolization (DEB-TACE) using HepaSpheres 20-40 µm in diameter and subsequent cisplatin-based lipiodol TACE (Cis-TACE) in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) > 5 cm.

Materials And Methods: This study included 39 consecutive patients (34 men, 5 women; mean age, 63.5 years; range, 39-80 years) who underwent DEB-TACE using HepaSpheres 20-40 µm as first-line treatment for HCC > 5 cm (mean diameter, 8.

Gunshot wounds involving the periorbital region pose numerous challenges due to the high morbidity related to direct and collateral ophthalmic injury. Additionally, the critical structures of the orbit are often injured, resulting in a variety of serious sequelae. The technique for bullet retrieval is also a special concern, given the limited space in the orbit and presence of critical structures.

Background: Bakanae disease is an important fungal disease caused by Gibberella fujikuroi. Incidence of rice bakanae disease creates serious problems in the foremost rice growing countries, and no rice variety has been found to be completely resistant to this disease. However, breeding rice varieties resistant to bakanae disease may be a cost-saving solution preferable to the application of fungicides.

Background: In addition to causing the loss of voluntary sensory and motor function, spinal cord injury (SCI) often creates a state of central neuropathic pain. Rats given SCI display increases in the activated form of transcription factors ERK 1/2 MAPK and CREB in the spinal cord, which correspond to allodynia in a model of neuropathic pain. This study was conducted to determine if low dose ketamine had an effect on the activation of ERK 1/2 and CREB in the development of neuropathic pain.
