This study investigated the anti-gastric cancer activity and mechanism of Panacis Quinquefolii Radix(Panax quinquefolium L.), and preliminarily compared the in vivo anti-gastric cancer efficacy of American-imported(JK-AG) and domestically produced(Shandong) Panacis Quinquefolii Radix decoctions(SD-AG). Based on network pharmacology predictions, a LUC-MGC803 cell ectopic gastric cancer nude mouse model was established.

Article Synopsis
  • Mechanical ventilation (MV) in critically ill pediatric patients can lead to diaphragmatic injury and dysfunction, assessed through diaphragm ultrasonography (DU).
  • A study found that patients with severe ventilator induced diaphragmatic dysfunction (VIDD) had significantly longer durations of MV and PICU stays compared to those with non-severe VIDD.
  • Daily DU monitoring indicated that severe VIDD typically began a few days after MV was initiated and was linked to poorer recovery outcomes, highlighting the need for early detection and management.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Perioperative or postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy based on 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) is a common first-line adjuvant therapy for gastric cancer (GC). However, drug resistance and the side effects of 5-FU have reduced its efficacy. Among these side effects, gastrointestinal (GI) toxicity is one of the most common.

Article Synopsis
  • Zeng-Sheng-Ping (ZSP) tablets, made from six Chinese herbs, are commonly used to help prevent and treat early-stage gastrointestinal cancer, but have been linked to occasional liver damage.
  • A study analyzed the serum of hamsters experiencing ZSP-induced liver injury using NMR-based metabolomics, identifying twelve metabolites related to this hepatotoxicity and noting significant changes in amino acid metabolism and the urea cycle.
  • The research also highlighted three specific amino acid enzymes as potential biomarkers for liver injury, while suggesting that certain compounds in two of the herbs may be responsible for the toxicity, leading to recommendations for a safer formulation of ZSP tablets.

Article Synopsis
  • A significant portion of mechanically ventilated patients, specifically 20%, struggle to be weaned off ventilators, with the weaning process consuming 40% of total ventilation time, highlighting the need for reliable predictive tools.
  • The study measured various indicators of diaphragmatic ultrasonography, such as diaphragm excursion (DE) and thickness, in mechanically ventilated children aged 1-3, assessing their ability to predict the success of the weaning process.
  • Results showed that specific ultrasonography indicators demonstrated significant differences between successful and unsuccessful weaning groups, suggesting that these measurements can effectively guide the weaning decisions in pediatric patients.

Two nano amide-functionalized metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) with molecular formula [Co(oba) (bpta)]·(DMF) TMU-50 and [Co(oba) (bpfn)]·(DMF) TMU-51 obtained under ultrasonic method without any surfactants. The only difference between the two selected amide functionalized pillar ligands, N,N'-bis(4-pyridinyl)-terephthalamide (bpta), and N,N'-bis-(4-pyridylformamide)-1,5-naphthalenediamine (bpfn), is related to the naphthyl group, which led to the different luminescence properties of the nano frameworks. In this study, the special ability of the luminescent nano MOFs were investigated to sensitize nitroaromatic compounds.
