Purpose: Monkeypox (or "mpox" as preferred by the World Health Organization) is an emerging infectious disease with sustained global transmission occurring outside of West Africa and the Democratic Republic of Congo. The recent 2022 mpox outbreak has involved widespread atypical presentations. Infected patients requiring surgery can increase the exposure of health care professionals and other patients to the virus.
