In this study, a Co doped polyhedral carbon skeleton (Co CN) was prepared by nitrogen carbonization using ZIF-67 as a precursor. The Co CN features a rough surface with excellent electrical conductivity, and the Co atoms exhibit unique catalytic properties. Based on these characteristics, we used Co CN as a carrier to load Au nanoparticles (NPs) onto its surface through the linkage and reduction effects of polyoxometalates (POMs).

The orb-weaver spider genus Archer, 1960 from China is revised, and three species, including two new species, are recognized: Mi & Wang, (♂♀) from Xizang and Mi & Wang, (♂♀) from Hainan; the type species, (Strand, 1906) (♂♀), is redescribed based on specimens from Guizhou and Hubei. Pursuing nanomaterials with high fluorescence quantum yields is of great significance in the fields of bioimaging, medical diagnosis, and food safety monitoring. This work reports on orange-emitting aggregation-induced emission (AIE) copper nanoclusters (Cu NCs) integrated with blue-emitting nitrogen-doped carbon dots (N-CDs), which enables highly sensitive detection of S and Zn ions through an off-on ratiometric fluorescence method. This paper presents the synthesis of a novel corn-stalk-like MnO₂/CoNi oxide composite using an in situ epitaxial attachment growth strategy, in which CoNi oxide nanosheets are anchored onto MnO₂ nanowires. The one-dimensional MnO₂ nanowires, with their large specific surface area, serve as a support to enhance the electronic conductivity of the CoNi oxides. Hexamethylenetetramine (HMTA) is employed as an alkaline linking agent, playing a key role in shaping the CoNi oxide nanosheets and ensuring their successful growth on the MnO₂ nanowires.

Nitrogen-cycling processes in the deep sea remain understudied. This study investigates the distribution of nitrogen-cycling microbial communities in the deep-sea surface sediments of the western South China Sea, using metagenomic sequencing and real-time fluorescent quantitative PCR techniques to analyze their composition and abundance, and the effects of 11 environmental parameters, including NH-N, NO-N, NO-N, PO-P, total nitrogen (TN), total organic carbon (TOC), C/N ratio, pH, electrical conductivity (EC), SO, and Cl. The phylum- and species-level microbial community compositions show that five sites can be grouped as a major cluster, with sites S1 and S9 forming a sub-cluster, and sites S13, S19, and S26 forming the other; whereas sites S3 and S5 constitute a separate cluster.

Accurate detection of site-specific 5-hydroxymethylcytosine (5hmC) in genomic DNA is of great significance, but it is technically challenging to directly distinguish very low levels of 5hmC from their abundant cytosine/5-methylcytosine (C/5mC) analogues. Herein, we wish to propose a selective ligase-mediated mechanism (SLim) that can directly discriminate 5hmC from C/5mC with a high specificity without the use of any sample processing protocol. In this new design, we discovered that HiFi Taq DNA Ligase can well tolerate the mismatched 5hmC/A base-pairing and then effectively ligate the associated nicking site while the mismatched 5mC/A or C/A pairs cannot be recognized by HiFi Taq DNA Ligase, providing a new way for direct and selective discriminating 5hmC from its similar analogues.
