Background: Stress hyperglycemia is a relatively transient increase in blood glucose in response to inflammation of the body and neurohormonal disorders. It is still debated whether stress hyperglycemia ratio (SHR) in the acute phase, a new indicator of stress hyperglycemia, is related to poor prognosis in acute ischemic stroke (AIS) patients. This meta-analysis provides insight into the connection between SHR and prognosis in AIS patients.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Hyperlipidemia is characterized by the disorder of lipid metabolism accompanied by oxidative stress damage, and low-grade inflammation, with the pathway of cholesterol and bile acid metabolic are an important triggering mechanism. Polymethoxyflavones (PMFs) are the active constituents of Aurantii Fructus Immaturus, which have many biological effects, including anti-inflammatory, antioxidant activities, anti-obesity, suppressing adipogenesis in adipocytes, and ameliorate type 2 diabetes, with potential roles for regulation of lipid metabolism. However, its associated mechanisms on hyperlipidemia remain unclear.

Article Synopsis
  • Recent studies show that gut bacteria can be linked to heart problems like myocardial ischemia (MI), which is when the heart doesn't get enough blood.
  • The Danshen and Honghua herb pair (DHHP) is a herbal treatment used for heart diseases in China and might help improve MI, but we need to look into how it works.
  • In tests with rats, DHHP helped fix heart tissue damage and balanced certain body chemicals, while also changing gut bacteria to better support heart health.

  • * In a cohort of 58 patients, the 5-year overall survival and failure-free survival rates were similar across URD, HID, and matched sibling donor groups, suggesting no significant advantage of one donor type over another.
  • * Key factors influencing outcomes were primary engraftment failure and secondary graft failure, while donor type and age did not predict survival; thus, a second transplant may be beneficial for patients experiencing engraftment failure.

Sleep restriction is associated with increased cardiovascular risk, which is more pronounced in female than male persons. We reported recently first causal evidence that mild, prolonged sleep restriction mimicking "real-life" conditions impairs endothelial function, a key step in the development and progression of cardiovascular disease, in healthy female persons. However, the underlying mechanisms are unclear.

Background: The human body model in the virtual surgery system is generally nested by multiple complex models and each model has quite complex tangent and curvature change. In actual rendering, if all details of the human body model are rendered with high performance, it may cause the stutter due to insufficient hardware performance. If the human body model is roughly rendered, the details of the model cannot be well represented.

Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is a serious threat to people's health due to its rapid progression, and patients easily develop resistance to targeted therapy. The absent in melanoma 2 (AIM2) is a receptor protein that has recently been proposed to play an important role in various diseases. In this study, AIM2 was identified as a new biomarker of RCC and promoted RCC progression and sunitinib resistance in an inflammasome-independent manner.

Increased cardiovascular risk in obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) persists after continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) and alternative therapies are needed. Impaired endothelial protection against complement is a cholesterol-dependent process that initiates endothelial inflammation in OSA, which increases cardiovascular risk. To investigate directly whether lowering cholesterol improves endothelial protection against complement and its proinflammatory effects in OSA.

Background: Though early brain injury (EBI) is the primary cause of poor outcomes among patients with subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), its exact molecular mechanisms remain unclear. Improved the understanding of how transient receptor potential melastatin-related 2 (TRPM2) is involved in SAH-induced EBI will help develop novel interventions.

Methods: Wild type (WT) male C57BL/6J mice were subjected to SAH for 12 h, 24 h or 48 h, after which neurological scores and pathological changes in the hippocampus (CA3, DG, and CA1) and temporal base cortex were observed.

Background: Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) has been identified as a possible contributor to interstitial lung disease. While positive airway pressure (PAP) is effective therapy for OSA, it causes large increases in lung volumes during the night that are potentially deleterious, analogous to ventilator-induced lung injury, although this has not been previously studied. The goal of this study was to assess the impact of PAP therapy on four biomarkers of alveolar epithelial and endothelial injury and extracellular matrix remodeling in patients with OSA.

In the recent years, a growing number of studies have shown that the occurrence of myocardial ischemia (MI) is closely related to the gut microbiota (GM). The Danshen-Honghua herb pair (DHHP), a classic combination in traditional Chinese herbal formulas, has been widely applied throughout history to cure cardiovascular disease, exhibiting remarkable clinical efficacy to treat ischemic heart disease (IHD). However, the intrinsic regulation mechanism of DHHP in treating MI remains unclear.

N-methyladenosine (mA), as the most pervasive internal modification of eukaryotic mRNA, plays a crucial role in various cancers, but its role in multiple myeloma (MM) pathogenesis has not yet been investigated. In this study, we revealed significantly decreased mA methylation in plasma cells (PCs) from MM patients and showed that the abnormal mA level resulted mainly from upregulation of the demethylase fat mass and obesity-associated protein (FTO). Gain- and loss-of-function studies demonstrated that FTO plays a tumor-promoting and pro-metastatic role in MM.
