Purpose: Aplastic anemia (AA) is a bone marrow failure syndrome with an unclear pathogenesis. Abnormal T cell immunity is one of the mechanisms involved in AA, and CD3ζ is an important signaling molecule for T cell activation. Single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in CD3ζ 3'-untranslated region (3'-UTR) were associated with some immune-related disease occurrence and affect CD3ζ protein level.

Optimizing the composition and structure of nanocatalysts is an efficient approach to achieving the top electrocatalytic performance. However, the construction of hollow nanocomposites composed of metal phosphides and highly conductive carbon to promote the electrocatalytic performance of metal phosphide-based catalysts is rarely reported. Herein, a CoFeP/C nanobox nanocomposite consisting of Co-Fe mixed-metal phosphides and N-doped carbon was successfully fabricated through an ion-exchange phosphidation strategy derived from ZIF-67 nanocubes.

Background: The management of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) often includes the use of radiotherapy, with individual outcomes being impacted by the tumor's response to this treatment modality. Cephalomannine (CPM), a taxane diterpenoid found in Taxus spp, has been found to have anti-tumor activity. This study was aim to the explore the role and mechanism by which CPM affects radiotherapy resistance in NSCLC.

Article Synopsis
  • A case in China is documented where a 70-year-old healthy man developed a brain abscess due to Nocardia beijingensis, a condition successfully treated with surgery and antibiotics.
  • The study includes findings from scanning electron microscopy of the strain and a review of existing literature, indicating that N. beijingensis is increasingly recognized as a pathogen that can affect even immunocompetent patients, with abscess formation being a frequent outcome.

Background: Serous ovarian carcinoma (SOC) is considered the most lethal gynecological malignancy. The current lack of reliable prognostic biomarkers for SOC reduces the efficacy of predictive, preventive, and personalized medicine (PPPM/3PM) in patients with SOC, leading to unsatisfactory therapeutic outcomes. N6-methyladenosine (mA) modification-associated long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) are effective predictors of SOC.

In aqueous solution, a novel triangle-like tungstovanadate estertin derivative KH[(WO(HO)){(SnCHCHCOO)(VW/VO)}{{(SnCHCHCOO)(μ-OH)}(SnCHCHCOO)(VWO)}]·31HO ((SnR)8-V3W35, R = CHCHCOO) was assembled by a conventional synthetic method. (SnR)8-V3W35 is composed of one [VWO] ({VW}) and two [VWO] ({VW}) units connected by eight [Sn(CH)COO] groups and a {WO} cluster. Interestingly, there exists a pentagonal bipyramid WO polyhedral center surrounded by two SnCO and three WO octahedra, forming a pentagonal {(WO)W(SnR)} cluster in this polyoxometalate (POM), which is also the first example of a pentagonal structure formed by transition metals (TMs) and main group organometals in the POM family.

Food-derived mucins are glycoproteins rich in sialic acid, but their digestive properties and potential health benefits for humans have been scarcely investigated. In this work, ovomucin (OVM, rich in N-acetylneuraminic acid, about 3 %), porcine small intestinal mucin (PSIM, rich in N-glycolylneuraminic acid, about 1 %), the desialylated OVM (AOVM) and the desialylated PSIM (APSIM) were selected to examine their digestion and their impact on the gut microbiota of elderly individuals. The results shown that, the proportion of low-molecular-weight proteins increased after simulated digestion of these four mucins, with concomitant comparable antioxidant activity observed.

Objective: Distant metastasis occurs in some patients at the first diagnosis of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC), the prognosis is poor, and there are significant individual differences. This study established a nomogram model of lung metastasis of NPC as a supplement to TNM staging.

Methods: The training cohort is used to build the nomogram model, and the validation cohort is used to evaluate the model.

A triterpenoid isolated from the plant Hedera helix, hederagenin was discovered to have anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory, anti-depressant and anti-fibrosis properties both in vivo and in vitro. In this study, the relationship between mitochondrial fission and hederagenin-induced apoptosis in ovarian cancer (OC) was investigated and the underlying mechanisms were deciphered. Hederagenin's cytotoxicity on OC cells was analyzed using colony formation and CCK-8 assays.

In the development of the Cold Atom Physics Research Rack (CAPR) on board the Chinese Space Station, the laser system plays a critical role in preparing the all-optical Bose-Einstein condensates (BECs). An all-fiber laser system has been developed for CAPR to provide the required optical fields for atom interaction and to maintain the beam pointing in long-term operation. The laser system integrates a 780 nm fiber laser system and an all-fiber optical control module for sub-Doppler cooling, as well as an all-fiber 1064 nm laser system for evaporative cooling.

We demonstrate a temperature-insensitive fiber-delay-line-stabilized (FDL-stabilized) laser based on a dual Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI) by using polarization maintaining fibers (PMFs). Two orthogonal polarization components of a beam are simultaneously transmitted in the interferometer. Each polarization component exhibits a unique phase shift in response to the changes in temperature, forming a dual MZI.

Recent studies have shown great performance of Transformer-based models in long-term time series forecasting due to their ability in capturing long-term dependencies. However, Transformers have their limitations when training on small datasets because of their lack in necessary inductive bias for time series forecasting, and do not show significant benefits in short-time step forecasting as well as that in long-time step as the continuity of sequence is not focused on. In this paper, efficient designs in Transformers are reviewed and a design of decomposing residual convolution neural networks or DRCNN is proposed.
