This surveillance study aimed to estimate the proportion of antimicrobial resistant strains and antimicrobial resistance (AMR) profiles of isolates detected from the intestinal contents of veal and dairy calves in the Veneto Region, Northeaster Italy. Additionally, we investigated the differences in AMR profiles between dairy and veal calves over the period 2017-2022. Overall 1150 isolates were tested from calves exhibiting enteric disease, with 868 from dairy and 282 from veal calves.

The composition of WP can strongly affect the filtration treatment of whey, and rapid determination of WP fractions would be of interest for dairy producers to monitor WP recovery. This study aimed to develop mid-infrared spectroscopy (MIRS) prediction models for the rapid quantification of protein in sweet whey, using a validated rapid reversed phase (RP)-HPLC as a reference method.

Native whey proteins (WP) can be aggregated and denatured to obtain colloidal microparticulated WP (MWP). The objective of this study was to assess the effect of MWP on MCP; namely, rennet coagulation time (RCT), curd-firming time, and curd firmness 30 min after rennet addition.

The contamination caused illnesses in many occupants of school. The GC/MS investigations of the air showed the presence of indane and other aromatic solvents, which was unusual as they are not correlated to outdoor pollution and derived from inner layers of the new flooring.

The remains of a fire-setting tool were found at the point of origin of the fire. It was started using a well-planned and methodical approach.

Indoor air quality is important because people are spending an increasing amount of time in the workplace. They are exposed to outdoor pollutants as well as pollutants emitted from products used indoors. Some chemicals, belonging to the category of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), easily release vapors at room temperature by evaporation.

Accurate and reproducible results are dependent on the correct choice of the reference genes for data normalization. To date, screenings evaluating candidate reference gene stability for expression studies in maize have not been reported.

TrxR, overexpressed in many tumor cells and contributing to drug resistance, has emerged as a new target for anticancer drugs. Gold complexes have been validated as potent TrxR inhibitors in vitro in the nanomolar range.

Two sites were monitored, one in the industrial area and one close to the town centre. Relevant pollution episodes have been observed during both the winter and summer periods.

The method involved collection of workplace dust on filters and extraction of 2-MeA with methanol and GC/MS analysis.

This chemical is one of the solvents used in the carbonless copy paper and its presence in food and the environment has not been previously identified. In this paper we have pursued previous studies on diisopropylnaphthalenes and hydrogenated terphenyls contamination from packaging and now report the identification of this new food contaminant and present evidence of its source.

Excluding some fires by natural causes, other causes are related to the social, economic, and productive profile of the territory. The erroneous expectation is that wooded areas destroyed by fire can then be used for private interests.

What can the investigator do in such a case? The only solution is to collect all the evidence and samples, even if they appear useless, and send them to specialised laboratories.

They may be attacked by insects or, under certain conditions, they may undergo spontaneous fermentation. Insect attack is normally avoided by fumigants, while fermentation, which depends on parameters such as temperature and humidity, is more difficult to stop and can produce chemical compounds which irremediably modify the nutritional and compositional properties of foodstuff.

This paper describes the analytical procedures used to identify the components of that contaminant in drinking water. Volatile and semi-volatile chemical species, responsible for an unpleasant taste and odour, were recognised by solid phase microextraction and GC/MS techniques.

The reaction conditions, such as temperature, reagent concentration and time, are optimized so as to allow the condensation of a single carbonyl group.

The chemical fractions of a used, synthetic lubricating oil for petrol engines were separated by flash chromatography on a silica gel column using variable mixtures of hexane/chloroform as eluents. The products extracted in the most polar fraction were separated by gas chromatography and then analyzed by computerized mass spectrometry. The analytical method used allowed the identification, among the various compounds, of a family of tetrahydropyran homologues with an aminic chain, phthalates, thiophene and pyridine derivatives.
