The overall prognosis of locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC) remains unsatisfactory due to a high incidence of disease relapse. The present understanding of the factors that determine the likelihood of recurrence is limited or ineffective. We aimed to identify the main risk factors influencing tumor relapse in LARC patients after neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (nCRT) and surgical treatment in a single center in Republika Srpska.

School-Based Circuit Training Intervention Improves Local Muscular Endurance in Primary School Students: A Randomized Controlled Trial.

Background: This study aimed to explore the effectiveness of a 12-week circuit training program in improving local muscular endurance in normal-weighted primary school students.

Methods: The study involved a parallel-group randomized trial with 606 primary school boys assigned to an experimental or a control group. The participants underwent a 12-week circuit training program that involved multi-joint, total-body workouts using body weight, resistance bands, and medicine ball exercises.

Study Objectives: The objective of this study was to independently validate a disposable and a reusable home sleep apnea test (HSAT) recording on peripheral arterial tonometry, compared to laboratory polysomnography (PSG), for the diagnosis of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).

Methods: 115 participants undergoing PSG for suspected OSA were recruited and fitted with the two study devices (NightOwl, Ectosense, Belgium). After exclusions were applied and device failures were removed, data from 100 participants were analyzed.

Trends in Morphological Characteristics among 7- and 11-Year-Old Serbian Children: A Comparison between 1990 and 2020.

Since knowledge possession about the morphological characteristics trend is important to understand, it is necessary to monitor the physical growth and children's development. We have aimed to examine the current state, dynamics, and direction of changes in morphological characteristics, over a 30-year period in Serbian children and adolescents. Morphological characteristics measured in 2020 ( = 304; age 7 ± 6 and 11 ± 6) were compared with the results of same-age children and adolescents from 1990 ( = 1789).

Background: Monitoring of physical activity within the educational institution is of great importance, primarily because of the orientation and content implemented in the daycare. This research aimed to examine the number of steps children took during their stay in daycare with regards to age, gender and the frequency of going out.

Methods: The research was conducted in four daycares in the urban environment of Novi Sad (Republic of Serbia), where 231 children, aged 5 to 7, were monitored (129 boys and 102 girls).

By experimental measurement and from a numerical solution to the time-dependent power flow equation, the frequency response, bandwidth, mode coupling, and mode-dependent attenuation are determined for a low-numerical-aperture (NA) plastic optical fiber. Frequency response and bandwidth are specified as a function of fiber length. Numerical results are verified against experimental measurements.

A pre-clinical functional assessment of an acellular scaffold intended for the treatment of hard-to-heal wounds.

The majority of the population experience successful wound-healing outcomes; however, 1-3% of those aged over 65 years experience delayed wound healing and wound perpetuation. These hard-to-heal wounds contain degraded and dysfunctional extracellular matrix (ECM); yet, the integrity of this structure is critical in the processes of normal wound healing. Here, we evaluated a novel synthetic matrix protein for its ability to act as an acellular scaffold that could replace dysfunctional ECM.

The first state-owned pharmacy in Serbia dates back to 1836. At first its title was Dvorska i voena apoteka (Court and Military Pharmacy), which later changed to Pravitelstvena apoteka (Government Pharmacy). The pharmacy moved from Kragujevac to Belgrade on two occasions along with the government seat, to finally settle in Belgrade on 8 december 1841 Pravitelstvena Apoteka fostered the development of the pharmaceutical science in the country and acted as a public healthcare institution.

High-speed and high-sensitivity displacement measurement with phase-locked low-coherence interferometry.

A novel high-speed and high-sensitivity displacement measurement sensing system, based on the phase-locked low-coherence interferometry, is presented. The sensing system is realized by comprising the Michelson fiber-optic interferometer. In order to obtain quadrature signals at the interferometer outputs, a 3×3 fused silica fiber-optic directional coupler is used.

Fully reflective external-cavity setup for quantum-cascade lasers as a local oscillator in mid-infrared wavelength heterodyne spectroscopy.

To our knowledge we present the first experiments with a fully reflective external-cavity quantum-cascade laser system at mid-infrared wavelengths for use as a local oscillator in a heterodyne receiver. The performance of the presented setup was investigated using absorption spectroscopy as well as heterodyne techniques. Tunability over approximately 30 cm(-1) at 1130 cm(-1) was demonstrated using a grating spectrometer.

Portable medicine chests in Serbia during the 19th and the first half of the 20th century.

Portable medicine chests could be considered as the oldest type of pharmacy in the 19th century Serbia. Historically their emergence could be associated with the appearance of the first physicians who kept post in Serbia. They were foreigners engaged on a contract to work during the reign of Prince Milos Obrenovic.

Theriac was an ancient multi-ingredient preparation; originating as a cure for the bites of serpents, mad dogs and wild beasts, it later became an antidote to all known poisons. The name theriac (treacle), (Greek theriake, Latin theriaca, French thériaque) was derived from the Greek for wild beast - theriakos. The first formula was created by Mithridates Vl, King of Pontus, a skillful ruler but a monster of cruelty, who, living in such a fear of being poisoned, took a great interest in toxicology.
