A 27-year-old female white-faced saki (Pithecia pithecia) died following an onset of vomiting and ptyalism. Necropsy revealed lesions of suppurative ventriculitis, choroid plexitis, periventricular encephalitis and meningitis with intralesional gram-positive coccobacilli and paired rods. The saki also had suppurative to mononuclear hepatitis, mild intestinal crypt necrosis, proliferative glomerulonephritis, aortic arteriosclerosis, pulmonary interstitial fibrosis, chronic mild epicarditis, ovarian medullary arteriopathy and a focal superficial cerebral fibrotic nodule with surrounding chronic mixed cell inflammation.

A 6-month-old mixed breed dog was referred for evaluation of a potential disorder of sex development (DSD) and lower than expected energy level. Genitourinary examination revealed ambiguous external genitalia, hypospadias, and a subtle pouch of skin that resembled an empty scrotum. Corrective surgery was planned and subsequently aborted after cyanosis was identified preoperatively and an arterial blood gas analysis by co-oximetry identified increased methemoglobin (MetHb) concentration (35%, normal <2%) with normal arterial oxygen tension.

A Tissue Engineered Construct for Laryngeal Regeneration: A Proof-of-Concept Device Design Study.

A 9-year-old, neutered male, domestic shorthair cat from Arizona, was presented for evaluation of a 7-day history of hind limb paraparesis that progressed to paraplegia. There was no history of respiratory abnormalities. Neurologic examination supported localization of a T3-L3 myelopathy.

Oral histiocytic sarcoma in a cat with mandibular invasion and regional lymph node metastasis.

Case Summary: An 11-year-old female spayed domestic medium-hair cat presented for dental prophylaxis, at which time no oral mass was appreciated. Fifteen days after a dental cleaning, a mass expanding the oral mucosa of the rostral mandible was identified. An incisional biopsy revealed that the oral mucosa was infiltrated by neoplastic round-to-spindloid mesenchymal cells arranged in streams and small, dense aggregates consistent with an undifferentiated sarcoma.

A 1-y-old female southern tamandua () presented with vomiting, hyporexia, and neurologic signs. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed contrast-enhancing material within the lateral and fourth ventricles and a T2 hyperintense cerebellar lesion, consistent with meningoencephalitis. The tamandua rapidly declined and was euthanatized.

Eighteen of 33 aborted fetuses (55%) had multifocal random suppurative or mononuclear meningoencephalitis with vasculitis. Seventeen of these affected fetuses had intracytoplasmic bacteria in endothelial cells, and 1 fetus with pericarditis had similar bacteria within mesothelial cells or macrophages.

Meaningful social engagement in everyday activities can enhance resident quality of life in nursing homes. In this article, we draw on data collected in a multidisciplinary, international study exploring promising practices in long-term care homes across Canada, Norway, and Germany, to investigate conditions that either allow for or create barriers to residents' social participation. Within a feminist political economy framework using a team-based rapid ethnography approach, observations and in-depth interviews were conducted with management, staff, volunteers, students, families, and residents.

Background: A range of near-real-time online/mobile mapping dashboards and applications have been used to track the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic worldwide; however, small area-based spatiotemporal patterns of COVID-19 in the United States remain unknown.

Methods: We obtained county-based counts of COVID-19 cases confirmed in the United States from 22 January to 13 May 2020 (N = 1 386 050). We characterized the dynamics of the COVID-19 epidemic through detecting weekly hotspots of newly confirmed cases using Spatial and Space-Time Scan Statistics and quantifying the trends of incidence of COVID-19 by county characteristics using the Joinpoint analysis.

A 5-year-old male, neutered mixed breed dog with a history of a mass with an associated draining tract on the ventral cervical region was diagnosed with an esophageal fistula. The dog exhibited serosanguinous discharge from the draining tract, with enlarged left superficial cervical and mandibular lymph nodes, and was reported to have difficulty with deglutition of solid foods. Computed tomography revealed a communication of the draining tract with the esophagus along with enlargement of the left lateral retropharyngeal, left medial retropharyngeal, and mandibular lymph nodes.

Gastrinoma, an infrequent diagnosis in middle-aged dogs, occurs with nonspecific gastrointestinal morbidity. Laboratory tests can yield a presumptive diagnosis, but definitive diagnosis depends on histopathology and immunohistochemistry. We describe a malignant pancreatic gastrinoma with lymph node metastases and corresponding Zollinger-Ellison syndrome in a Mexican gray wolf ( Canis lupus baileyi) and review this endocrine neoplasm in domestic dogs.

Sodium fluoroacetate toxicity: a case report of malicious poisoning in dogs across a Phoenix, Arizona neighborhood.

In May 2016, thirteen dogs housed in backyards within a single neighborhood were reported to have developed convulsions and died within a 24 h period. An investigation of the scene by law enforcement resulted in submission of eight dogs for postmortem examination. It was suspected that a rapid acting toxin was the cause of death.

This paper examines the tension between macro level regulation and the rule breaking and rule following that happens at the workplace level. Using a comparative study of Canada, Norway, and Germany, the paper documents how long-term residential care work is regulated and organized differently depending on country, regional, and organizational contexts. We ask where each jurisdiction's staffing regulations fall on a prescription-interpretation continuum; we define prescription as a regulatory tendency to identify what to do and when and how to do it, and interpretation as a tendency to delineate what to do but not when and how to do it.
