The article provides an overview of the opinions and attitudes of a selected group of experts on the introduction of electronic healthcare in the Czech healthcare system. The research used the DELPHI method, the first wave of which took place in the first quarter of this year and the second wave is planned for the second half of this year. A total of forty respondents assessed the relevance of the individual steps of electronization and digitization, as well as the obstacles that need to be overcome in the implementation of the National eHealth Strategy.

We report the fabrication of a novel fiber-optic sensor device, based on the use of a microsphere conformally coated with a thin layer of zinc oxide (ZnO) by atomic layer deposition (ALD), and its use as a refractive index sensor. The microsphere was prepared on the tip of a single-mode optical fiber, on which a conformal ZnO thin film of 200 nm was deposited using an ALD process based on diethyl zinc (DEZ) and water at 100 °C. The modified fiber-optic microsphere was examined using scanning electron microscopy and Raman spectroscopy.

This manuscript presents a theoretical analysis of a diamond-based integrated optics structure for applications in biosensors. The geometrical, optical, and sensitivity properties of an integrated optical structure were theoretically analyzed and optimized for biosensor applications. The analysis focused on determining the waveguide properties, including the effective refractive index as a function of refractive index and thickness of waveguide layer, refractive index of the hemoglobin cover layer and substrate layer , homogeneous sensitivity , and modal field distribution of guided waveguide modes.

In the rapid evolution of gastrointestinal endomicroscopy, optical coherence tomography (OCT) has found many diverse applications. Until recently, the micro-opto-electro-mechanical systems (MOEMS) technology has been playing a key role in shaping the miniaturization of these components. We report here, to the best of our knowledge, a novel endoscopic microsystem.

In this work we present the fabrication and characterization of a diamond film which can be utilized in the construction of optical sensors for the investigation of biological samples. We produced a nitrogen-doped diamond (NDD) film using a microwave plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (MWPECVD) system. The NDD film was investigated with the use of scanning electron microscopy (SEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM) and Raman spectroscopy.

Many patients attending general practice do not have an obvious diagnosis at presentation. Skills to deal with uncertainty are particularly important in general practice as undifferentiated and unorganised problems are a common challenge for general practitioners (GPs). This paper describes the management of uncertainty as an essential skill which should be included in educational programmes for both trainee and established GPs.

What is believed to be a new technique that allows for the simultaneous measurement of 2D temperature and chemical species concentration profiles with high spatial resolution and fast time response was developed and tested successfully by measuring a thin layer of fuel vapor created over a volatile fuel surface. Normal propanol was placed in an open-top rectangular container, and n-propanol fuel vapor was formed over the propanol surface in a quiescent laboratory environment. An IR beam with a wavelength of 8-13 mum emitted from a heated plate and a He-Ne laser beam with a wavelength of 632 nm were combined and passed through the n-propanol vapor layer, and both beams were absorbed by the vapor layer.

It has been known since the nineteenth century that oxygen is taken up by the human skin. With a newly developed sensor it became possible to examine the influence of the vascular supply on the oxygen flux into the skin, tcJ(O2). tcJ(O2) was measured optically by determining the oxygen partial pressure difference, DeltapO2 across a diffusion test membrane, which itself was brought into close contact to the skin surface.

At present the Scientific and Research Laboratory of Preventive and Social Medicine is concerned with an extensive longitudinal research "Detection and reduction of sensory and motor disorders". Specialists from various paediatrics disciplines and some 200 health community paediatricians from six districts on the CR and SSR participate in the research. The research comprises children born in these districts in one calendar year.
