Three rare cases of two-level skier's thumb injuries-review of the literature, anatomical variants and surgical treatment.

We report three rare cases of two-level skier's thumb injuries and explain the diagnostic challenges, surgical treatments, and anatomical explanations to emphasize the importance of a systematic diagnostic approach in every skier's thumb injury, including clinical examination, radiography, and ultrasonography. A surgical method to treat these rare cases is presented.

Ulnar wrist pain is a frequent symptom with many possible traumatic and non-traumatic causes. The complex anatomy and biomechanics of the wrist with the ulnocarpal complex including the triangular fibrocartilaginous complex (TFCC), the distal radio-ulnar joint (DRUJ) and the ulnar carpal bones make the differentiation between the possible causes difficult. A precise clinical investigation and appropriate imaging studies are essential for detecting the most important differential diagnoses, the first therapeutical steps and an early and appropriate referral to the hand surgeon.

Language is a crucial aspect of mathematical thinking and learning, and it is therefore essential for teachers to be equipped with the skills required for linguistically responsive teaching. This includes the ability to identify potential linguistic challenges in expository texts. In the present study, we investigated the ability of pre-service teachers ( = 115) to identify potential linguistic challenges in a mathematical expository text for ninth graders.

Intraoperative fluorescence angiography and cholangiography with indocyanine green (ICG) are increasingly used in routine hepatobiliary surgery. Its usage is manifold. It improves and facilitates navigation especially in minimal invasive and robotic surgery and therefore increases the safety of the surgical intervention.

Three-dimensional organization of microtubules in tumor cells studied by confocal laser scanning microscopy and computer-assisted deconvolution and image reconstruction.

Confocal microscopy, image deconvolution and computer-assisted methods have been used to reconstruct the three-dimensional (3-D) distribution of tubulin in cells. The techniques were applied to tumor cells growing under regular culture conditions (planar cultivation) and those penetrating into reconstituted collagen matrices (spatial cultivation). As expected the application of deconvolution algorithms enhanced the resolution of results.

Cytochromes and oxygen radicals as putative members of the oxygen sensing pathway.

This study applies biophysical methods like light absorption spectrophotometry of cytochromes, determination of NAD(P)H-dependent superoxide anion (O2-) formation and localisation of hydroxyl radicals (*OH) by 3-dimensional (3D) confocal laser scanning microscopy to reveal in human cells putative members of the oxygen sensing signal pathway leading to enhanced gene expression under hypoxia. A cell membrane localised non-mitochondrial cytochrome b558 seems to be involved as an oxygen sensor in the hepatoma cell line HepG2 in cooperation with the mitochondrial cytochrome b563 probably probing additionally metabolic changes. *OH the putative second messenger of the oxygen sensing pathway generated by a Fenton reaction could be visualized in the perinuclear space of the three human cell lines used.

Tomography of cells by confocal laser scanning microscopy and computer-assisted three-dimensional image reconstruction: localization of cathepsin B in tumor cells penetrating collagen gels in vitro.

We used the nondestructive procedures of confocal laser scanning microscopy in combination with computer-assisted methods to visualize tumor cells in the process of penetrating collagen gels. Three independent sets of images were collected. The image information of all data sets was combined into one image, giving a three-dimensional (3D) impression at high light microscopic resolution and sensitivity.

12-Lipoxygenase in A431 cells: genetic identity, modulation of expression, and intracellular localization.

Human A431 epidermoid carcinoma cells express 12-lipoxygenase enzymatic activity. However, the isoform identity based on cDNA sequence data is not known. Further, the simultaneous characterization of the intracellular distribution of 12-lipoxygenase protein and activity is lacking.

Three-dimensional analysis of the substrate-dependent invasive behavior of a human lung tumor cell line with a confocal laser scanning microscope.

Matrigel and collagen G gels were used as models for basement membrane and interstitial space-collagen, respectively, to study the invasive behavior of cells of the human lung tumor cell line EPLC 32M1, which was derived from a squamous cell carcinoma. For three dimensional analysis of the invasive process, cells were seeded onto the gels in a slide chamber and observed with a confocal laser scanning microscope. Optical sectioning in the xy and xz directions and image reconstruction with computer programs allowed us readily to obtain a three-dimensional overview of the invasive process in situ.

[Follow-up of central pontine myelinolysis with clinical remission].

We report on a case of central pontine myelinolysis in a young alcoholic woman, which occurred after a period of abstinence. There was a latency between the clinical findings and magnetic resonance imaging. The lowest measured sodium blood level was 121 mmol/l.

[Rhabdomyolysis and a plexus lesion following heroin poisoning].

We report about a young female patient who suffered a rhabdomyolysis and a plexus lesion after heroin intoxication. A computer-tomography was made to reveal the extent of myonecrosis. A larger rhabdomyolysis of muscles of the pelvis and left thigh was seen.
