Four common calcareous sponge species from the Arctic are described. One species, Sycandra rappi Morozov sp. nov.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFSponges of the genus Suberites are quite polymorphic and diverse, yet the delimitation of species within the group has always been challenging since there are only a few spicule types that show little, or sometimes no variation in closely allied species. Literature data and original experience of the authors in 46 patients with pulmonary lesions (chronic bronchitis, bronchial asthma, postoperative conditions after pulmonary surgery) suggest the existence of relationships between pulmonary diseases and those of nervous system (central and peripheral). X-ray, ultrasound dopplerography of the major cerebral vessels, EEG and REG revealed cerebrovascular disorders (vascular insufficiency, slow venous outflow). 120 patients with Guillain-Barre syndrome and other peripheral myelinopathies were randomly assigned to three treatment groups. One of the group was exposed to pulsed high frequency electric field (47 patients), the other group to continuous current (52 patients), and the third group received the imitation of therapy (21 patients). Pulsed current therapy caused the greatest regress of the neurological deficit (45 from 47 cases).
