The effects of low zinc, high fructose diet on growth and adipocyte metabolism were examined in rats. At 28 days of age, animals were assigned to diets either adequate in zinc (30 ppm) with water (AZW) or fructose solution (AZF), or low in zinc (5 ppm) with water (LZW) or fructose solution (LZF). Body weight and food and fructose solution intake were measured three times a week.

The association of alopecia with a sebaceous verrucose nevus and an epibulbar lipodermoid is a rare condition (8 cases reported in the literature). Only girls suffer from this disease; this suggests a hologynic heredity, as in the case of Aicardi's syndrome. The authors present a new observation of a 7-year-old girl who exhibits all the characteristics of this new syndrome.

In 11 years of surveillance in southwestern Pennsylvania there were 97 cases of Reye syndrome. Peak incidence was in February and March, corresponding to periods of influenza A and B activity. Mean age of cases was 7.

Following a short summary of the anatomical and physiological aspects of the surgical procedure, the authors present a series of 320 eyes operated upon by the method of angiodiathermocoagulation. Open-angle glaucoma, followed by aphakic glaucoma, respond the best to this procedure, the expected number of good results being approximately 25% where the criteria are severe. The low percentage of severe complications represents one of the greatest advantages of angiodiathermocoagulation, which may be recommended in desperate cases.

Twenty-seven cases of Reye's syndrome (RS) were admitted over a 19-month period to one urban hospital. All lived in a suburban or rural location and 23 cases occurred during two influenza outbreaks. Two to three months following the last cases of RS, 24 families of RS cases and 21 control families representing neighbors or friends were interviewed for factors which could predispose to RS.

An epidemiologic investigation of viral hepatitis among "street-people" was conducted in Pittsburgh, PA in 1971. Among 146 individuals, 100 admitted to parenteral drug use and 73 (50%) had evidence of acute viral hepatitis. Counterelectrophoresis (CEP) and complement-fixation (CF) were used to test for type B antigen (HBS AG).
