Background: Chondrodysplasia punctata 1 (CDPX1) is an X-linked recessive disorder of cartilage and bone development characterized by stippling on the cartilage and bone, flattened nasal bridge, and brachydactyly, or short fingers. CDPX1 has been associated with variants in the ARSL gene and is known to manifest prenatally, however, there has been no systematic literature review on this evidence.

Aims: Here, we reviewed the current literature on prenatal manifestations of CDPX1, and additionally introduce previously unpublished cases.

Background: Pulmonary hypoplasia is the primary cause of perinatal death in lethal skeletal dysplasias. The antenatal ultrasound correlates for lethality are indirect, measuring the thorax (thoracic circumference, TC) or femur compared to the abdomen (TC/AC, FL/AC). Although studies have documented the relationships between physical health, health rumination/worry, and mental health, few investigations have assessed these linkages within African American communities. Using a community-based sample of residents in historically lower-income, African American communities (N = 306), this study assesses the mediating role of health rumination/worry in the physical limitation-depressive symptom relationship, and the moderating effect of gender on the relationship between health rumination/worry-depressive symptoms. Findings demonstrate that health rumination/worry explains half of the physical limitation-depressive symptom relationship, and the relationship between health rumination/worry and depressive symptoms is stronger for African American men than women.

During the stance phase of equine locomotion, ground reaction forces are exerted on the hoof, leading first to rapid deceleration ("braking") and later to acceleration ("propulsion") as the hoof leaves the ground. Excessive hoof deceleration has been identified as a risk factor for musculoskeletal injury and may be influenced by arena surface properties. Therefore, our objective was to evaluate the effect of arena surface type (dirt, synthetic) on hoof translation of the leading and trailing forelimbs during jump takeoff and landing.

Lesions are characterized by low bone volume fraction, low mineral density, and high levels of microdamage and are hypothesized to develop when bone tissue cannot sufficiently respond to damaging loading.
