Introduction: Information disclosures are used in medicine to provide patients with relevant information. This research examines whether patients are less likely to discuss medical conditions with their physicians after seeing an insurance information disclosure.

Methods: Three experimental studies with nonprobability online samples (n = 875 US adult participants) examined the impact of information disclosures on patients' likelihood of disclosing symptoms to providers, using new symptoms and preexisting chronic conditions.

This systematic review employs a socio-ecological framework to investigate the challenges that arise due to early spousal loss. The research team conducted a systematic review of studies published between 2013 and 2023 to uncover factors that influence the grieving process in bereaved spouses. The results reveal that concurrent with the grief and devastation associated with partner loss, young widows and widowers also face a harsh reality filled with secondary losses, financial difficulty, mental health distress, emotional anguish, and identity crises.

Background: Significant health disparities exist for trans and gender-nonconforming patients, in part caused by a reduced likelihood of seeking health care due to experienced discrimination in health care settings. Increasing inclusivity in patient-provider interactions can decrease barriers to care seeking for these patients, but such advice to providers must be simple to implement and account for potential backlash among certain patient subgroups.

Methods: In 3 studies, we use online samples to experimentally test patient reactions to 2 methods of provider inclusivity signaling: verbal sharing of the provider's pronouns and request for the patient's pronouns (a method frequently suggested in the literature) and the provider wearing a pin indicating their pronouns without verbal sharing or requesting that the patient share their pronouns.

Anion-exchange-membrane water electrolyzers (AEMWEs) in principle operate without soluble electrolyte using earth-abundant catalysts and cell materials and thus lower the cost of green H . Current systems lack competitive performance and the durability needed for commercialization. One critical issue is a poor understanding of catalyst-specific degradation processes in the electrolyzer.

High frequency oscillations (HFOs) are very brief events that are a well-established biomarker of the epileptogenic zone (EZ) but are rare and comprise only a tiny fraction of the total recorded EEG. We hypothesize that the interictal high frequency 'background' data, which has received little attention but represents the majority of the EEG record, also may contain additional, novel information for identifying the EZ. We analysed intracranial EEG (30-500 Hz frequency range) acquired from 24 patients who underwent resective surgery.

African American women, in particular, have learned to navigate through a food consumption landscape that purposefully, and often aggressively, limits their choices and stigmatizes their resulting physical appearance, and renders them collectively unattractive and unworthy. While American women are challenged to subscribe to traditional slim body standards, a faction of Americans have differing opinions. African American (AA) women celebrate larger body types and defy weight stigma.

A prospective, school-based study of increasing alcohol use in a multi-ethnic sample of 7,540 adolescents showed that the effects of stress, family conflict, and parental monitoring were differentially moderated by two modes of individuation. The effects of stress were moderated by ethnic status and individuation. Implications for prevention and intervention are discussed.

Recombinant human erythropoietin (r-HuEPO, epoetin alfa) is used for treatment of anemia associated with chemotherapy for non-myeloid malignancies, chronic renal failure and zidovudine treatment in patients infected with the human immunodeficiency virus and for anemic patients undergoing elective, noncardiac, nonvascular surgery. Epoetin alfa has been shown to safely increase preoperative hemoglobin (Hb) levels in anemic patients undergoing elective noncardiac, nonvascular surgery and is more effective than preoperative autologous blood donation in reducing the need for perioperative blood transfusions in orthopedic surgery patients. Epoetin alfa was shown to significantly increase Hb levels and decrease transfusion requirements in gynecologic cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy.

Norplant is a levonorgestrel-containing contraceptive system that consists of six small capsules (2.4 x 34 mm), which are placed subdermally. Owing to the relative newness of this contraceptive modality, problems with removal of the Norplant implants are just beginning to be reported; these consist primarily of inability to locate and remove all six implant capsules upon discontinuation.

It does not appear that methotrexate can or should be used to totally replace laparoscopic salpingostomy. However, given its success rate in selected patients, its cost-effectiveness, and its low incidence of side effects, methotrexate therapy certainly can be used as an alternative therapy. The next step in developing this treatment option will be to conduct a randomized clinical trial comparing laparoscopic salpingostomy with intramuscular methotrexate.
