Idiopathic membranous nephropathy (IMN) is one of the most frequent causes of the nephrotic syndrome in adults and one of the most common cause of chronic renal failure among primary glomerular diseases. The most frequent cause of death in hemodialysis patients is cardiovascular disease with chronic inflammation being an epidemiologically proved risk factor. Many studies have shown C-reactive protein (CRP) as the strongest predictor of long-term mortality of hemodialysis patients, while other reports have indicated acute phase proteins as potential predictors of the mortality.
