Weight loss can positively alter female physiology; however, whether dietary carbohydrate- or fat- restriction confer unique effects is less studied. Precisely designed, hypocaloric well-formulated ketogenic diets (KD; ~75% energy for weight maintenance) were compared to isocaloric/isonitrogenous low-fat diet (LFD) on self-reported menses in pre-menopausal overweight and obese women (mean ± SD: 34 ± 10 years, BMI: 32.3 ± 2.

Purpose: This systematic review examines the psychological and medical literature for psychospiritual interventions designed to support parents' mental health and psychological well-being during or after the NICU experience.
Data Sources: Data sources include PubMed, PsycINFO, and Cochrane Library (Cochrane Database of Systemic Reviews, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials) with peer-reviewed studies published between 2013 and 2023.
Introduction: In anticipation of institutional and community-wide COVID-19 immunization clinics, an educational program for the administration of COVID-19 vaccines was developed, collaborating with the Virginia Department of Health to train doctor of medicine and physician assistant students to serve as vaccinators. Faculty and students also worked with state legislatures to propose and enact a bill that would enable such students to vaccinate patients.
Methods: Between January 2021 and August 2022, 263 student volunteers completed 3,685 person-hours, administering 48,279 doses.
The Antarctic Circumpolar Current (ACC) represents the world's largest ocean-current system and affects global ocean circulation, climate and Antarctic ice-sheet stability. Today, ACC dynamics are controlled by atmospheric forcing, oceanic density gradients and eddy activity. Whereas palaeoceanographic reconstructions exhibit regional heterogeneity in ACC position and strength over Pleistocene glacial-interglacial cycles, the long-term evolution of the ACC is poorly known.

The primary goals of this study were to evaluate the feasibility and the sustained metabolic effects of a personalized well-formulated ketogenic diet (WFKD) designed to achieve consistent blood beta-hydroxybutyrate (βHB) >0.5 mM in women diagnosed with stage IV metastatic breast cancer (MBC) undergoing chemotherapy.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFBackground: Single doses of exogenous ketone salts (KS) transiently increase circulating beta-hydroxybutyrate (BHB) (∼1 mM; 1-2 h) regardless of starting levels of ketosis; however, no studies have explored how sustained use of KS influences measures of ketonemia and glycemia.
Objectives: To determine the response to a hypocaloric, well-formulated ketogenic diet (KD), with and without the inclusion of two daily racemic KS doses (6 g R-BHB + 6 g S-BHB per serving) on 1) daily fasting capillary R-BHB and glucose (R-BHB/GLU), 2) bi-weekly 13 h diurnal BHB and glucose (R-BHB/GLU), 3) three-hours post-KS ingestion kinetics (R-BHB), and 4) bi-weekly fasting plasma enantiomer-specific BHB (R/S-BHB).
Methods: Non-diabetic adults with overweight and obesity were randomized to receive a precisely measured hypocaloric KD (∼75 %en of maintenance) for six weeks, supplemented twice-daily with KS or placebo (PL).
New Findings: What is the central question of the study? Can a novel, energy-dense and lightweight ketogenic bar (1000 kcal) consumed 3 h before exercise modulate steady-state incline rucksack march ('ruck') performance compared to isocaloric carbohydrate bars in recreationally active, college-aged men? What is the main finding and its importance? Acute ingestion of either nutritional bar sustained ∼1 h of exhaustive rucking with a 30% of body weight rucksack. This proof-of-concept study is the first to demonstrate that carbohydrate bars and lipid bars are equally feasible for preserving ruck performance. Novel ketogenic nutrition bars may have military-relevant applications to lessen carry load without compromising exercise capacity.

Methods: In responses to HIV epidemic in the Allegheny County, AIDS Free Pittsburgh was created with the goals of reducing new HIV infections by 75% and declaring Allegheny County AIDS free (no new AIDS cases) by 2020.
Our aim was to report the use of Cu and Cu as a theranostic pair of radionuclides in human subjects. An additional aim was to measure whole-organ dosimetry of Cu and Cu attached to the somatostatin analog octreotate using the sarcophagine MeCOSar chelator (SARTATE) in subjects with somatostatin receptor-expressing lesions confined to the cranium, thereby permitting normal-organ dosimetry for the remainder of the body. Pretreatment PET imaging studies were performed up to 24 h after injection of [Cu]Cu-SARTATE, and normal-organ dosimetry was estimated using OLINDA/EXM.

Catheter-directed computed tomography angiography (CDCTA) is an imaging technique where CT images are acquired after selective catheterization of a vessel. Images obtained in this fashion provide several advantages over conventional imaging techniques such as fluoroscopic angiography, digital subtraction angiography, cone-beam CT, and conventional CT angiography. At this point, there is still limited literature on the subject, with prior studies examining a small number of potential uses.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFOur understanding of the climatic teleconnections that drove ice-age cycles has been limited by a paucity of well-dated tropical records of glaciation that span several glacial-interglacial intervals. Glacial deposits offer discrete snapshots of glacier extent but cannot provide the continuous records required for detailed interhemispheric comparisons. By contrast, lakes located within glaciated catchments can provide continuous archives of upstream glacial activity, but few such records extend beyond the last glacial cycle.

Community-engaged learning (CEL) integrates community service with structured learning to strengthen the knowledge and skills of future physicians while still in medical school. A national model forCEL during medical school does not currently exist. Emergency physicians have the opportunity to play a vital role in medical student education using CEL as a platform.

The underlying processes causing the decrease are debated, which has led to speculation that the field is about to reverse. Here, we present a geomagnetic field model based on indirect observations over the past 9,000 y and identify potential ancient analogs.

Although the number of interventions to improve health in ECE environments is increasing, few have been designed for and tested in family child care homes (FCCHs). This study reports the process evaluation of two interventions to improve FCCH health environments, both part of Happy Healthy Homes, a matched-attention randomized-controlled intervention trial conducted in Oklahoma FCCHs.

Vector species involved in LSDV transmission and their ability to acquire and transmit the virus are poorly characterized. Using a highly representative bovine experimental model of lumpy skin disease, we fed four model vector species (, , , and ) on LSDV-inoculated cattle in order to examine their acquisition and retention of LSDV.

In temperate regions, transmission of arboviruses is limited by temperature thresholds, in both replication and dissemination of arboviruses within the vector and in the flight activity of adult Culicoides. This study aims to determine the cold-temperature thresholds for flight activity of Culicoides from the UK under laboratory conditions.
