Glioblastoma (GBM) infiltrates the brain and can be synaptically innervated by neurons, which drives tumor progression. Synaptic inputs onto GBM cells identified so far are largely short-range and glutamatergic. The extent of GBM integration into the brain-wide neuronal circuitry remains unclear.

This project, driven by medical students, identified specific disability-centered educational learning points that could be integrated into existing preclinical neurology content as part of an integrated disability curriculum.

In a recent issue of Science Immunology, Bagchi et al. identified that tumor-associated macrophages upregulate GPR65 in response to obesity-driven intratumor acidity resulting in reduced effector function to promote tumor growth.

CLL patients are susceptible to severe infections due to immune dysregulation induced by their malignancy and immunosuppressive therapies.
Case Presentation: We present a case of a 63-year-old man with CLL who previously achieved remission and presented with a right inguinal mass.
Objectives: A more sustainable work-life balance is desired by trainees, and increasing access to flexibility in training may improve staff morale and retention. Although a number of less than full-time (LTFT) trainees are increasing, only a minority identify as men. This study aimed to explore the perception and experience of LTFT training among postgraduate medical trainees (PMTs) identifying as men in Scotland.

Here, a new microalgal multispecies flow cytometry-based bioassay is used to assess knowledge gaps in risk assessments posed by the short-term exposure of organisms to contaminants. The toxicities of atrazine, metolachlor, and copper were assessed using four exposure scenarios, a 72 h exposure (continuous), an 18 h pulse exposure, and two 3 h pulse exposures (light and dark conditions), that assessed chronotoxicity.

Omicron and its sublineages have been dominant worldwide. Compared to pre-Omicron VOCs, early Omicron subvariants reportedly cause attenuated disease in human ACE-2-expressing mice (K18-hACE-2).

Using a free website, "PM&R Connections", a serious game, was created to provide trainees with an alternative method of reviewing content to identify knowledge gaps to direct studying. The game was used by 19/33 trainees and 92.

Stereoelectroencephalography (sEEG) has become part of the evaluation for many patients with focal DRE, and sEEG electrodes provide a potential source of small amounts of brain-derived DNA. We aimed to identify, validate, and assess the distribution of potentially clinically relevant mosaic variants in DNA extracted from trace brain tissue on individual sEEG electrodes.

In these cases, seizure onset typically occurs during the first few months of life, with episodes of epileptic hemifacial spasms and abnormal eye movements. Patients often present with drug-resistant epilepsy and often require resection for the best chance of seizure freedom.

Water escapes to space as atoms, and hydrogen atoms escape faster than deuterium giving an increase in the residual D/H ratio. The present ratio reflects the total water Mars has lost.

Recently, severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2)-induced neuroinvasion and encephalitis were observed in K18-hACE2 mice, leading to mortality. Our goal in this study was to gain insights into the molecular pathogenesis of neurological manifestations in this mouse model.

The process of welding creates inhalable fumes rich in iron (Fe) that may also contain known carcinogenic metals such as chromium (Cr) and nickel (Ni). Epidemiological evidence has shown that both mild steel (Fe-rich) and stainless steel (Fe-rich + Cr + Ni) welding fume exposure increases lung cancer risk, and experimental animal data support these findings.

August 2024
Benzimidazole (BZ) anthelmintics are among the most important treatments for parasitic nematode infections in the developing world. Widespread BZ resistance in veterinary parasites and emerging resistance in human parasites raise major concerns for the continued use of BZs. Knowledge of the mechanisms of resistance is necessary to make informed treatment decisions and circumvent resistance.

Data: An electronic search was performed, only full scientific papers published in English were included.
Sources: A search was conducted of all databases in the Web of Science (WOS) platform for available publications on the topic of NCCLs.
Objective: Persons with vestibular schwannoma suffer from dizziness, imbalance, and decreased function leading to reduced quality of life. Other forms of peripheral vestibular hypofunction show improvements in these signs and symptoms with vestibular rehabilitation; however, the efficacy of this intervention for those with vestibular schwannoma is unknown. Therefore, the aim of this systematic review was to determine the effect of vestibular physical therapy on subjective and objective measures of vestibular symptoms and function in people with vestibular schwannoma.
