Introduction: The results from different Cochrane studies justify considerable professional equipoise concerning different treatment options for tinnitus. In case of professional equipoise, Shared Decision Making (SDM) is an indispensable tool for guiding patients to the intervention that best fits their needs. To improve SDM we developed a method to assess the accuracy and utility of decisions made by tinnitus patients when freely choosing between different treatment options during their patient journey.

There is currently a lack of prospective studies comparing multiple treatment options for single-sided deafness (SSD) in terms of long-term sound localization outcomes. This randomized controlled trial (RCT) aims to compare the objective and subjective sound localization abilities of SSD patients treated with a cochlear implant (CI), a bone conduction device (BCD), a contralateral routing of signals (CROS) hearing aid, or no treatment after two years of follow-up. About 120 eligible patients were randomized to cochlear implantation or to a trial period with first a BCD on a headband, then a CROS (or vice versa).

Article Synopsis
  • Laryngeal cleft (LC) is a defect in the larynx that can cause aspiration issues during feeding, and injection laryngoplasty (IL) is a temporary treatment to reduce these symptoms by filling in the cleft.
  • A study evaluated 85 patients who underwent IL and found that 96% had aspiration symptoms before the procedure, which dropped to 54% after IL, with varying degrees of symptom relief reported.
  • The results indicate IL significantly improves swallowing issues related to laryngeal cleft and can serve as a useful temporary treatment before more permanent solutions are implemented.

Introduction: There is a lack of comprehensive and uniform data on head and neck paragangliomas (HNPGLs), and research is challenging due to its rarity and the involvement of multiple medical specialties. To improve current research data collection, we initiated the Head and Neck Paraganglioma Registry (HNPGL Registry). The aim of the HNPGL Registry is to a) collect extensive data on all HNPGL patients through a predefined protocol, b) give insight in the long term outcomes using patient reported outcome measures (PROMs), c) create uniformity in the diagnostic and clinical management of these conditions, and thereby d) help provide content for future (randomized) research.

Objective: The diagnosis and management of Superior Canal Dehiscence Syndrome (SCDS) with concomitant otosclerosis can be a challenge. Otosclerosis can mask SCDS symptoms and stapes surgery may reveal or exacerbate vestibular symptoms. Our aim is to present four cases of SCDS with concomitant otosclerosis and thereby informing the reader about the possibility of this dual occurrence and its implications for treatment.

Introduction: The leucine-rich repeat-containing G-protein coupled receptor 5 (LGR5) is a tissue resident stem cell marker, which it is expressed in supporting cells (SCs) in the organ of Corti in the mammalian inner ear. These LGR5+ SCs can be used as an endogenous source of progenitor cells for regeneration of hair cells (HCs) to treat hearing loss and deafness. We have recently reported that LGR5+ SCs survive 1 week after ototoxic trauma.
