Objectives: Tendinopathy and fasciopathy are common conditions that can result in time-loss injury in athletes. This study aimed to determine if preseason sonographic abnormalities of the patellar tendon, Achilles tendon and plantar fascia are associated with future time-loss injuries in collegiate athletes.

Methods: National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I athletes from three institutions participated in this 3-year prospective, observational study.

Introduction: Medicaid coverage is associated with longer appointment wait times, decreased access to care, and poorer health outcomes compared with private insurance across medical subspecialties. The purpose of this study was to evaluate new patient appointment wait times for subspecialty Orthopaedic care based on insurance type and to identify factors influencing these wait times.

Methods: Orthopaedic physicians were identified using the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons patient-facing database in the fields of Adult Reconstruction, Foot and Ankle, Hand, Sports Medicine, Spine, Pediatric, and General Orthopaedic surgery.

Radical Prostatectomy Survivorship: What Are We Really Asking?

Introduction Urinary incontinence, sexual dysfunction, and bowel dysfunction are well-recognized cancer survivorship outcomes affected by radical prostatectomy (RP) in the treatment of prostate cancer (PCa).The aim of this study was to audit the thoroughness of outpatient discussions and documentation of survivorship outcomes for patients who have undergone RP. Methods This was a retrospective audit of all 253 radical prostatectomies conducted at two tertiary-level Australian institutions (Monash Medical Centre and Alfred Hospital), over a five-year period between 2014 and 2018.

Exertional Leg Pain in Athletes.

Exertional leg pain is a relatively common condition that can negatively impact athletic performance and may pose a diagnostic and management challenge for the sports medicine physician. A comprehensive clinical evaluation is important to narrow the broad differential associated with exertional leg pain and focus the selection of the most appropriate diagnostic tests and treatment modalities in the care of these individuals. This article will provide an update on recent literature regarding the etiologies, pathophysiology, clinical presentation, workup/diagnosis, and treatment of exertional leg pain in athletes with a focus on vascular etiologies, chronic exertional compartment syndrome, and bone stress injury.

Methods: Eligible subjects were discharged from the hospital within the previous 10 days and had a HF event in the previous 6 months.

Background: Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries are prevalent musculoskeletal conditions often resulting in long-term degenerative outcomes such as osteoarthritis (OA). Despite surgical advances in ACL reconstruction, a significant number of patients develop OA within ten years post-surgery, providing a patient population that may present early markers of cartilage degeneration detectable using noninvasive imaging.

Purpose: This study aims to investigate the temporal evolution of cartilage strain and relaxometry post-ACL reconstruction using displacement under applied loading MRI and quantitative MRI.

However, limited evidence exists on the experiences and perceptions of key stakeholders involved in SDM for neurocritical patients with stroke.

Tibial Tubercle Osteotomy: Indications, Outcomes, and Complications.

Purpose Of Review: The tibial tubercle osteotomy (TTO) is a versatile surgical technique used to treat a range of patellofemoral disorders, including patellar instability, painful malalignment, focal chondral defects, and patellar maltracking that have failed conservative therapies. TTO is a personalized procedure that can be tailored to the pathoanatomy of the patient based on physical examination and imaging. The complication rate associated with TTO strongly depends on the indication for surgery, the severity of the patient's condition, and the surgical approach.

Tibial Spine Avulsion Fracture Fixation Using a Re-tensionable All-Suture Construct.

Tibial spine avulsion injuries, including fractures, are a variant of anterior cruciate ligament injuries. Treatment historically consisted of open reduction and internal fixation of the avulsion fracture, with anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction considered in cases of failed open reduction and internal fixation or residual laxity. However, improved instrumentation has led to the advancement of various arthroscopic techniques for addressing these injuries.

There is a paucity of information about what mentoring committees are, how to use them effectively, what areas they should evaluate, and how they can most successfully help junior faculty progress in their careers.

In vitro assays of ion transport are an essential tool for understanding molecular mechanisms associated with ATP-dependent pumps. Because ion transport is generally electrogenic, principles of electrophysiology are applicable, but conventional tools like patch-clamp are ineffective due to relatively low turnover rates of the pumps. Instead, assays have been developed to measure either voltage or current generated by transport activity of a population of molecules either in cell-derived membrane fragments or after reconstituting purified protein into proteoliposomes.

Background: Constipation is a common problem in childhood that can have psychological, emotional, social, and health-related quality-of-life (HRQOL) consequences on children and their families. Primary or functional constipation (FC) has no known underlying pathology but is associated with lifestyle, psychological, and behavioural factors. Misdiagnosis and inadequate management of constipation can result in chronicity that can continue to adulthood, reducing quality of life for the child and their parents/family.

Frontline perspectives on barriers to care for patients with California Medicaid: a qualitative study.

Background: While insurance is integral for accessing healthcare in the US, coverage alone may not ensure access, especially for those publicly insured. Access barriers for Medicaid-insured patients are rooted in social drivers of health, insurance complexities in the setting of managed care plans, and federal- and state-level policies. Elucidating barriers at the health system level may reveal opportunities for sustainable solutions.

This review aims to summarize the nature and breadth of literature examining older people's experiences with access to PHC in LMICs, and access barriers and enablers.

This article aims to describe a surgical technique for primary ACL repair using a re-tensionable all-suture-based construct.

The membrane protein Niemann-Pick type C1 (NPC1, named NCR1 in yeast) is central to sterol homeostasis in eukaryotes. NCR1 is localized to the vacuolar membrane, where it is suggested to carry sterols across the protective glycocalyx and deposit them into the vacuolar membrane. However, documentation of a vacuolar glycocalyx in fungi is lacking, and the mechanism for sterol translocation has remained unclear.
