The synthesis, characterization and reactivity of the diferrocenylphosphenium ion [FcP] was extended to the heavier diferrocenylpnictogenium ions, [FcE] (E=As, Sb, Bi). The lighter diferrocenylnitrenium ion, [FcN], was detected by mass spectrometry, but could not be isolated. The molecular structures of [FcE] (E=P, As, Sb, Bi) reveal intramolecular coordination of the iron atoms, which counterbalance the electron deficiency of the pnictogens without affecting the strong Lewis acidities, which were determined according to the method of Gutmann and Beckett.

Here, the series of triferrocenylpnictogens FcE was extended to the heavier analogues (E = As, Sb, and Bi), and the influence of the bridging atom was investigated with FcP as a reference. Electrochemical studies elucidate the effect of electrostatic contribution on the large redox splitting (Δ ) exhibited by the compounds and solvent stabilization in the case of FcAs.

CRLF2 and interleukin-7 receptor alpha (IL-7Rα) form a receptor for the cytokine thymic stromal lymphopoietin (TSLP), which induces JAK/STAT and PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway signals. Previous studies from our group showed that low TSLP doses increased STAT5, AKT, and S6 phosphorylation and contributed to CRLF2 B-ALL cell survival.

Postoperative results are generally associated with increased morbidity and long periods of inactivity. The biomedical community promotes the use of artificial materials for grafts in order to achieve improved results.

All boranes are water tolerant and according to the Gutmann-Beckett method, 1-3 display Lewis acidities larger than that of the prominent B(C F ) .

Objective: To determine if intrapleural tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) and DNase is more effective than tPA and placebo at reducing hospital length of stay in children with pleural empyema.
Background: A randomized controlled trial of adults with empyema recently demonstrated decreased length of stay in hospital in patients treated with intrapleurally administered dornase alfa and fibrinolytics compared to fibrinolytics alone. Whether this treatment strategy is safe and effective in children remains unknown.
Methods/design: This study protocol is for a superiority, placebo-controlled, parallel-design, multicenter randomized controlled trial.
Patient-derived xenograft (PDX) mice are produced by transplanting human cells into immune deficient mice. These models are an important tool for studying the mechanisms of normal and malignant hematopoiesis and are the gold standard for identifying effective chemotherapies for many malignancies. PDX models are possible because many of the mouse cytokines also act on human cells.

As empirical and clinical research yield new implant materials, there has been need to test and compare these materials to provide the most cost-effective and efficient implants. Evaluation of efficiency of implants has relied heavily on histological and radiological methods, but these one-dimensional measurement methods fail to evaluate the osteoblastic activity and osseointegration properties of putative implants.

Objective: To examine the relationship between serum vitamin D concentrations, dietary intake and body mass index among healthy children living in Calgary, Alberta.
Methods: The present cross-sectional study included healthy children two to 13 years of age who presented to the Alberta Children's Hospital for elective surgery during a 12-month period. Data including the child's weight, height, age, sex, ethnicity, dietary intake, use of vitamin supplements, physical activity and time spent outdoors were collected.
The study was designed to exploit the single photon emission computerized tomography (SPECT) to compare osteoblastic activity of two implant systems: an Endopore implant (Beaded implants) placed immediately into an extraction socket in conjunction with peri-implant autogenous grafting supplemented with a guided tissue regeneration (GTR) technique, and an Endopore implant placed immediately into the extraction socket without peri-implant grafting and GTR. Endopore implants of the same size (12 mm x 4.1 mm INT-Hex) were placed in fresh extraction sockets in the canine-tooth region of the pigs jaw.

Serum samples were obtained from 94 children with MS and 106 controls. Paired CSF and serum were obtained from 25 children with MS at time of their initial episode of acute demyelinating syndrome (ADS).

The affected apices were removed using a diamond bur mounted on a dental drill, and after pulp removal the root canals were filed with Hedstrøm files and then alternately flushed with sodium hypochlorite, hydrogen peroxide and alcohol. The pulp canals were dried and filled with endodontic cement and gutta-percha points.

Our aim was to determine some of these characteristics in children with MS.
Methods: 137 children with MS and 96 control participants matched by age and geographical region were recruited in a multinational study.
Oral prednisone (1)might be a convenient, inexpensive alternative to IV methylprednisolone (IVMP) if the bioequivalent dose was known. We compared the total amount of steroid absorbed after 1250 mg oral prednisone vs 1 gram IVMP in 16 patients with multiple sclerosis (MS). At 24 hours, the mean area under the concentration-time curve (AUC), the main component of bioavailability, did not differ between groups (p = 0.

Objective: To assess the effects of glatiramer acetate and beta interferon on fatigue in multiple sclerosis.
Methods: Fatigue was measured at baseline and six months using the fatigue impact scale (FIS). Groups (glatiramer acetate and beta interferon) were evaluated for the proportion improved, using Fisher's exact test.
