Catalytic 1,3-Proton Transfer in Alkenes Enabled by Fe═NR Bond Cooperativity: A Strategy for p-Dictated Regioselective Transposition of C═C Double Bonds.

Transition metal catalyzed alkene double bond transposition usually involves metal hydride intermediates. Despite significant advances in the design of catalysts that dictate product selectivity, control over substrate selectivity is less advanced and transition metal catalysts that selectively transpose double bonds in substrates containing multiple 1-alkene functionalities are rare. Herein, we report that the three-coordinate high spin ( = 2) Fe(II) imido complex [PhB(BuIm)Fe═NDipp][K(18-C-6)THF] () catalyzes 1,3-proton transfer from 1-alkene substrates to afford 2-alkene transposition products.

The First Genome of the Cold-Water Octocoral, the Pink Sea Fan, Eunicella verrucosa.

Cold-water corals form an important part of temperate benthic ecosystems by increasing three-dimensionality and providing an important ecological substrate for other benthic fauna. However, the fragile three-dimensional structure and life-history characteristics of cold-water corals can leave populations vulnerable to anthropogenic disturbance. Meanwhile, the ability of temperate octocorals, particularly shallow-water species, to respond to adjustments in their environment linked to climate change has not been studied.

Skin-to-skin contact after birth: Developing a research and practice guideline.

Aim: Skin-to-skin contact immediately after birth is recognised as an evidence-based best practice and an acknowledged contributor to improved short- and long-term health outcomes including decreased infant mortality. However, the implementation and definition of skin-to-skin contact is inconsistent in both practice and research studies. This project utilised the World Health Organization guideline process to clarify best practice and improve the consistency of application.

Radiolucent line assessment in cemented stemmed total knee (RISK) arthroplasty: validation of a modernized classification system.

Background: This study aims to implement and assess the inter- and intra-reliability of a modernized radiolucency assessment system; the Radiolucency In cemented Stemmed Knee (RISK) arthroplasty classification. Furthermore, we assessed the distribution of regions affected by radiolucency in patients undergoing stemmed cemented total knee arthroplasty.

Methods: Stemmed total knee arthroplasty cases over 7-year period at a single institution were retrospectively identified and reviewed.

Exploding Head Syndrome among Patients Seeking Help for Tinnitus and/or Hyperacusis at an Audiology Department in the UK: A Preliminary Study.

Background:  Exploding head syndrome (EHS) is characterized by hearing a sudden loud noise or experiencing a sense of explosion in head during the transition of sleep-wake or wake-sleep. The experience of EHS shares similarities with tinnitus, where an individual perceives a sound without any external sound source. To the authors' knowledge, the possible relationship between EHS and tinnitus has not been explored.

Density functional theory investigation of mechanisms of degradation reactions of sulfonated PEEK membranes with OH radicals in fuel cells: addition-elimination reactions and acid catalyzed water elimination.

Unlabelled: Sulfonated polyether (ether) ketone or sulfonated PEEK (sPEEK) membranes are one possible candidate for proton-transfer membranes in hydrogen fuel cells. Reaction with hydroxy radicals is expected to be a significant source of degradation of these membranes during fuel cell operation. In this work, the reactivity of the sPEEK polymer molecule with OH radicals is studied by M062X hybrid density functional calculations of the energetics of several reaction paths in a water environment as modeled by polarized continuum model calculations.

Individual variation in complex social behavioral traits, like primate grooming, can be influenced by the characteristics of the individual and those of its social group. To better grasp this complexity, social network analysis can be used to quantify direct and indirect grooming relationships. However, multi-group social network studies remain rare, despite their importance to disentangle individual from group-level trait effects on grooming strategies.

Intersections of oppression: Examining the interactive effect of racial discrimination and neighborhood poverty on PTSD symptoms in Black women.

Black Americans living in urban environments are disproportionately impacted by posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Both racial discrimination and neighborhood poverty are factors that contribute to this health disparity. However, studies focused on the intersection of these two oppressive systems on PTSD symptoms are lacking.

BigNeuron: a resource to benchmark and predict performance of algorithms for automated tracing of neurons in light microscopy datasets.

BigNeuron is an open community bench-testing platform with the goal of setting open standards for accurate and fast automatic neuron tracing. We gathered a diverse set of image volumes across several species that is representative of the data obtained in many neuroscience laboratories interested in neuron tracing. Here, we report generated gold standard manual annotations for a subset of the available imaging datasets and quantified tracing quality for 35 automatic tracing algorithms.

Predictors of psychoneurological symptoms in cancer caregivers over time: Role of caregiving burden, stress, and patient symptoms.

Purpose: In cancer patients, stress is associated with a psychoneurologic (PN) symptom cluster of depressed mood, anxiety, pain, fatigue, and sleep disturbance. The stress of caregiving may trigger similar symptoms among caregivers and warrants investigation. The purpose of this analysis was to characterize correlates of PN symptom burden in cancer caregivers.

High-Risk Pedigree Study Identifies (rs62346982) as a Likely Predisposition Variant for Prostate Cancer.

There is evidence for contribution of inherited factors to prostate cancer, and more specifically to lethal prostate cancer, but few responsible genes/variants have been identified. We examined genetic sequence data for 51 affected cousin pairs who each died from prostate cancer and who were members of high-risk prostate cancer pedigrees in order to identify rare variants shared by the cousins as candidate predisposition variants. Candidate variants were tested for association with prostate cancer risk in UK Biobank data.

For example, it has recently been demonstrated that the development of monoclonal antibody therapeutics from vector construction to IND submission can be achieved in five to six months rather than the traditional ten-to-twelve-month timeline using CHO cells [1], [2]. This timeline is predicated on leveraging existing, robust platforms for upstream and downstream processes, analytical methods, and formulation.

Advance care planning engagement in patients with chronic, life-limiting illness: baseline findings from a cluster-randomised controlled trial in primary care.

Background: Advance care planning (ACP) has been characterised as a complex process of communication and decision making. For ACP behaviour change, underlying processes such as self-efficacy and readiness are needed. However, studies about which patient characteristics are associated with ACP have mainly focused on whether ACP actions are completed, leaving behaviour change processes unexplored.

Glycemic Control and Effects of Canagliflozin in Reducing Albuminuria and eGFR: A Post Hoc Analysis of the CREDENCE Trial.

Background: In the Canagliflozin and Renal Events in Diabetes with Established Nephropathy Clinical Evaluation (CREDENCE) trial, the sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 (SGLT2) inhibitor canagliflozin improved kidney and cardiovascular outcomes and reduced the rate of estimated glomerular filtration decline (eGFR slope) in patients with type 2 diabetes and CKD. In other clinical trials of patients with CKD or heart failure, the protective effects of SGLT2 inhibitors on eGFR slope were greater in participants with versus participants without type 2 diabetes. This post hoc analysis of the CREDENCE trial assessed whether the effects of canagliflozin on eGFR slope varied according to patient subgroups by baseline glycated hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c).

Recovery from Exercise in Persons with Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS).

: Post-exertional malaise (PEM) is the hallmark of myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS), but there has been little effort to quantitate the duration of PEM symptoms following a known exertional stressor. Using a Symptom Severity Scale (SSS) that includes nine common symptoms of ME/CFS, we sought to characterize the duration and severity of PEM symptoms following two cardiopulmonary exercise tests separated by 24 h (2-day CPET). : Eighty persons with ME/CFS and 64 controls (CTL) underwent a 2-day CPET.

Estrogen Receptor β4 Regulates Chemotherapy Resistance and Induces Cancer Stem Cells in Triple Negative Breast Cancer.

Triple Negative Breast Cancer (TNBC) has the worst prognosis among all breast cancers, and survival in patients with recurrence is rarely beyond 12 months due to acquired resistance to chemotherapy, which is the standard of care for these patients. Our hypothesis is that Estrogen Receptor β1 (ERβ1) increases response to chemotherapy but is opposed by ERβ4, which it preferentially dimerizes with. The role of ERβ1 and ERβ4 in influencing chemotherapy sensitivity has never been studied before.
