The gaseous phase analyses of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are an important challenge especially when these organics are formed in high vacuum environments (10 mbar) reproducing the environment of astrophysical ices formation and processing. Several analytical techniques have been developed to identify the molecular diversity formed from the processing of these ices. Among them, the coupling of a GC-MS to the vacuum chamber where ices are processed highlighted the interesting chemical diversity of such processed ices.

Manipulation under anesthesia (MUA) and continuous passive motion (CPM) are commonly used to optimize range of motion (ROM) for the treatment of early stiffness following total knee arthroplasty (TKA). The addition of systemic glucocorticoid as an adjunct to a standardized protocol of MUA and aggressive CPM treatment is outlined. Results demonstrate an average postoperative increase in knee ROM of 45 degrees in 78 TKAs at 10 weeks from MUA procedure with no complications reported.

Wear and osteolysis are common problems that often require revision surgery following total knee arthroplasty (TKA). Wear rates can be reduced through proper implant positioning and the use of modern, highly cross-linked polyethylene liners. More research is needed to identify medications that could prevent or treat the bone loss associated with osteolysis.

In comparison with standard surgical techniques robotic-assisted surgery has the advantages of increased surgical accuracy, reproducibility, optimization of component position, and improved patient outcomes in unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA) and total hip arthoplasty (THA) procedures. The MAKO Tactile Guidance System (TGS; MAKO Surgical Corp, Fort Lauderdale, FL) facilitates robotic-assisted arthroplasty procedures currently implemented in many operating rooms. The benefits of this technology are evident, but have not been shown to improve patient outcomes and justify the added financial burden imposed.

Objectives: To examine the anatomic relationships of the major neurovascular structures at the midshaft clavicle region as they pertain to plate osteosynthesis in the treatment of midshaft clavicle fractures.

Methods: Fifteen fresh cadaveric specimens were dissected at the clavicle region. The shortest distances from the midshaft clavicular fracture lines to the subclavian artery and vein and brachial plexus were measured with a digital caliper with the limb in anatomic position and at 90° of abduction.
