Characteristics of trauma mortality in the Northern Territory, Australia.

Background: While factors including remoteness, alcohol consumption, age and Indigenous ethnicity are well-documented associations of trauma mortality, less is known of trauma seasonality. This is particularly relevant to Australia's Northern Territory, with its tropical regions experiencing a climate of wet (hot and humid) and dry (warm) seasons annually. The aim of this study was to therefore, examine the characteristics of trauma mortality in the Top End, Northern Territory, Australia.

Prazosin for the treatment of nightmares related to posttraumatic stress disorder: a review of the literature.

Background: Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a psychiatric disorder with symptoms that include insomnia due to hyperarousal and recurring nightmares. These symptoms are believed to be due to a conditioned response that is regulated by norepinephrine. Prazosin, an α(1) antagonist, can decrease levels of norepinephrine in the central nervous system, thereby reducing nightmares related to PTSD.

Sweet eating is not a predictor of outcome after Lap-Band placement. Can we finally bury the myth?

Background: It is common belief that sweet eaters will do poorly after gastric restrictive surgery. There is scant evidence for this and significant evidence that sweet eating behavior is not predictive of weight outcome. Preoperative and current sweet eating behavior was assessed in subjects who have had Lap-Band surgery, to find if this influenced weight outcomes.

Sexual offenders' perceptions of their early interpersonal relationships: an attachment perspective.

The present study examined the perceptions of early interpersonal experiences of sexual offenders (child molesters and rapists) and two criminal comparison groups. A grounded theory approach was applied to a comprehensive list of responses provided by the participants to questions about their early interpersonal experiences. The raw data was collapsed into 14 basic categories by grouping together responses of similar meanings.
