Background: Dental prosthetic rehabilitation (DPR) plays a critical role in restoring function and quality of life following mandibular reconstruction. This study examines the rate of patients undergoing dental implants and DPR after reconstruction of a segmental jaw defect with a fibula free flap reconstruction. We identify factors associated with successful dental implants and DPR in this patient population.

Mandibular reconstruction with a fibula free flap is often used for advanced oral malignancies, osteonecrosis, or benign tumors to restore function and appearance after segmental mandibulectomy. The "Jaw in a Day" (JIAD) technique enables immediate restoration of form and function with a fibula free flap, implants, and a temporary prosthesis. This case reports the unique use of the JIAD technique in a young female patient with a traumatic mandibular nonunion fracture and chronic osteomyelitis, demonstrating its efficacy in significantly enhancing her quality of life.

We present a unique case of mandibular reconstruction using virtual surgical planning (VSP) of a post-traumatic mandibular non-union defect for a patient with familial dysautonomia (FD), also known as Riley-Day Syndrome. In this case, the complexity related to perioperative and surgical challenges illustrates the utility of VSP and the importance of multi-disciplinary collaboration in jaw-free flap reconstructive surgery. We highlight our experience with the "Jaw-In-A-Day" approach in conjunction with tailored preoperative planning and perioperative care resulting in successful mandibular free flap reconstruction.

Purpose: Oral mucormycosis is a rare and high risk of infection in patients following hematopoietic cell transplantation few cases in the literature. We review the literature and present an additional case to emphasize the subtle changes that resulted in positive outcome when diagnosed and managed in a comprehensive transplant team.

Results: A patient was diagnosed with gingival mucormycosis on day +25 following a hematopoietic stem cell transplant for lymphoblastic transformation of chronic myeloid leukemia.
